U.S. Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Reporter (Level 1 Journalist) (Washington, DC)
Provide breaking news coverage by monitoring agency announcements, tracking regulatory decisions, and filing fast, accurate reports on healthcare policy and industry shifts.
About the Role
In this opportunity as a U.S. Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Reporter (Level 1 Journalist), you will:
Write and publish reports using data-driven analysis and narrative journalism techniques to break down complex healthcare regulations and their economic and social impacts.
Monitor and analyze regulatory updates and news announcements from HHS, FDA, CDC, CMS, and NIH by reviewing press releases, policy statements, agency reports, and regulatory filings. Summarize key developments and assess their impact on pharmaceutical companies, insurers, healthcare providers, and patients.
Track congressional hearings, legislative proposals, and budget discussions related to drug pricing, healthcare access, and regulatory reforms. Write summaries and provide analysis of proposed legislation’s potential outcomes.
Review and analyze lobbying disclosures, campaign finance records, and congressional testimony to identify corporate influence on pharmaceutical policy.
File Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and examine government databases, legal filings, and enforcement actions to uncover non-public regulatory decisions, corporate influence, and policy loopholes.
Collect and analyze financial reports, trade data, and regulatory enforcement actions to identify trends in pharmaceutical spending, pricing strategies, and corporate compliance. Use spreadsheets and data visualization tools to present findings.
Cover public health crises by tracking real-time government responses, analyzing official briefings, and reporting on emergency measures related to pandemics, the opioid crisis, and global health threats. Interview health officials and industry leaders.
Examine U.S. healthcare policies in the context of national security by reviewing White House and congressional reports, tracking pandemic preparedness measures, and assessing the role of pharmaceutical supply chains in geopolitical conflicts.
Analyze Supreme Court and federal court rulings on healthcare and pharmaceutical cases by reading legal opinions, interviewing legal experts, and explaining how decisions affect industry regulations, drug approvals, and patient access.
Develop and maintain sources across government agencies, industry associations, and advocacy groups by attending briefings, setting up background meetings, and maintaining active communication with key contacts for exclusive insights.
Attend and report on press briefings, industry conferences, and public events, summarizing key takeaways and identifying emerging trends in healthcare policy and pharmaceutical regulations.
Coordinate with Reuters’ global team to produce multi-platform coverage, including writing news articles, recording video interviews, developing data visualizations, and posting real-time updates on social media.
About You
You're a fit for the role of U.S. Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Reporter (Level 1 Journalist) if your background includes:
