Community Based Learning
Time Type:
Part time
FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt
Job Description:
Summary:
The Center for Leadership & Community Engagement (CLCE) is AU’s hub for engaging with the DMV through community outreach and civic action.
We are seeking an organized, self-motivated, and passionate student to assist in coordinating programs that recognize and empower students involved in Community-Based work. Primarily, this role helps coordinate the Eagle Endowment for Public & Community Service.
The Eagle Endowment differs from AU’s Endowment. It’s a unique program with a rich history. Founded in the aftermath of 9/11 by students, it became the first student-led Endowment in the USA! Recently, the Eagle Endowment won a grant competition and the title of “top college philanthropic organization in the USA”.
The Eagle Endowment gives AU Students/Clubs grants of up to $1,000 (along with a year of mentorship) to make a lasting difference through social action projects. Since 2002, it’s responsible for over 120 projects, many of which are still creating positive impacts years later. Projects are rooted in Community-Based Research theory and applications involve a Needs Assessment and local partnerships to ensure that projects fulfil the intended impact.
With direction from CLCE and the Assistant Director of Community-Based Learning, this position will manage the Eagle Endowment, including its funds, Advisory Council, projects, visibility, and impact reports. The ideal fit is a dedicated student who wants to build their leadership skills for multiple semesters by operating, in essence, a “foundation” that cultivates innovative and impactful projects from AU students.
This year, the position will focus on capacity building. This includes recruiting and leading a committed Advisory Council of students, managing a ~$10k budget, and creating the foundation for a 25-year Anniversary Event along with a Greek Life Subgrants collaboration. They will work closely with a past Eagle Endowment Coordinator and a Co-Coordinator to set the vision and learn the ropes. Ideal candidates would be in this role for at least 2 years to build continuity.
Essential Functions:
Program Administration: Conduct daily operations, lead Advisory Council, execute grant cycles, oversee website and social media, manage budget and timeline for key initiatives.
Storytelling and Visibility: Create annual reports showcasing projects and be the public face of the Eagle Endowment at conferences, meetings, class presentations, alumni events, etc.
Strategic Partnerships: Create partnerships to advance fundraising, resources for projects, and engagement with the Eagle Endowment grants and Council.
Grant Management: Review grant applications, conduct interviews with applicants, and ensure grant recipients execute meaningful projects with integrity.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Part-time.
15 hours per week.
Salary Range:
$18.50 per hour.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Technology: Adept at using Excel, AI tools, Canva, Canvas, surveying tool (Qualtrics/MS Forms) and a project tool (ToDoist).
Familiar with MS Outlook and Teams.
Proactive and growth-oriented leader (enjoys strategizing, developing systems and timelines, comfortable delegating and analyzing data) who has a passion for Community Development.
Exceptional organizational and communication skills. Diligent, curious, and a quick learner.
Experience managing a growing program with a team and budget for at least a year.
Professionalism, reliability, and responsiveness with stakeholder communications.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
What to expect: A close-knit team that cares about its mission: turning ideas into action and action into impact, a supervisor who will teach you “the how and why” during the first few months, then, enable you to lead multiple smaller projects and showcase your skills and build your resume, a leadership role where you will recruit a strong Council of students, manage meetings and timelines, and delegate responsibilities with the aim of scaling a mission-driven organization, and being the steward of a historic and prestigious organization meaningful to alumni and that has created turned innovative student ideas into lasting impacts for nearly 25 years. The student can also expect to develop multiple skills including public speaking, event organizing, organization development, program/project administration, grant writing, and leadership, advance student projects using your creativity, problem solving, and networking, and experience a job that engages you for multiple semesters and that grows with you.
Will have the opportunity to create strategic partnerships across Greek Life and Service-based clubs, along with alumni and corporate partners, to create direct impacts in local communities beyond philanthropy.
