Job Summary
As a Laboratory Technician, you will be joining a dynamic team performing cutting edge research across multiple disciplines. Operating in a collaborative environment, you will provide invaluable support to a large government contract following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and project-specific guidance providing skilled laboratory and operational support in biology and chemistry for sample receipt, preparation, analysis, equipment upkeep, and inventory control. In this role you will assist with extraction and analysis of samples, maintain instruments and supply inventories, and help ensure the laboratory remains organized and ready for operations. You will support quality assurance activities by reviewing records, helping maintain compliance with program requirements, participating in audits and corrective action processes, and assisting with preparation of routine reports and documentation.

This full-time position is contingent upon contract award and will be in Washington DC.
Responsibilities
Support execution of laboratory experiments and sample analysis rooted in chemistry and biological sciences
Perform routine experiments in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and/or work instructions with guidance from senior scientists
Operate lab equipment to include pipetting devices, balances, pH meters, microscopes, centrifuges, plate readers, etc.
Document experimental data clearly and consistently. Compile data and perform initial technical and quality control review of routine experimental data prior to submission for final review by senior staff
Communicate progress and results to senior scientists
Assist with maintenance of laboratory equipment and facilities within structured quality frameworks (e.g., ISO 9001:2015 or 21 CFR Part 58 GLP)
Follow established safety and security guidelines
Some domestic travel is possible but not anticipated.
Key Qualifications
High School diploma and 3 years laboratory experience focused on sample preparation and analysis using scientific methods in biology and/or chemistry.
Experience entering data into a laboratory information management system
Ability and willingness to work in biological safety level 2 (BSL-2) laboratories
Good oral and written communication skills
Ability to understand and follow written procedures
The ability to work in a team environment
Sufficiently medically fit to work in the laboratory to perform assigned duties including the ability to wear personal protection equipment (PPE), lift up to 25 pounds, and work in the proximity of hazardous/infectious materials
Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
Sole U.S. citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as a condition of employment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working within laboratory quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001:2015, ISO17025, or 21 CFR Part 58 GLP)
Interest and ability to learn and apply new skills in multiple subject areas
Current or previously held security clearance
Salary Range
Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The hourly range for this role is $19.51 - $26.34 per hour, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate’s salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
