The Opportunity:
This is a local temporary position working at our client site, Civeo, in Fort McMurray, AB.
The Role:
Operating excavators to complete precise grading, trenching, ditching, sloping, backfilling, and finishing work on construction, civil, industrial, and maintenance projects. This role requires strong equipment control, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely around workers, utilities, structures, and other equipment.
The operator must be able to read grade stakes, follow site plans, work with ground crews, and complete final shaping or cleanup to meet project specifications.
Accountabilities:
Operate excavators safely and efficiently for finishing work, grading, trenching, ditching, sloping, backfilling, and site cleanup.
Complete fine grading and shaping to required elevations, slopes, and tolerances.
Work closely with surveyors, foremen, labourers, and other equipment operators to meet project requirements.
Read and understand grade stakes, site markings, drawings, and verbal instructions.
Excavate around existing utilities, services, buildings, roads, and other sensitive areas with care.
Place and shape material such as gravel, clay, sand, topsoil, rip rap, and other aggregates.
Maintain safe working distances from workers, vehicles, overhead lines, underground utilities, and structures.
Conduct daily equipment inspections and report any defects or maintenance concerns.
Keep equipment clean, fueled, greased, and in good operating condition.
Follow all company safety policies, site rules, PPE requirements, and environmental procedures.
Assist with labour duties when required, including spotting, cleanup, rigging, and site preparation.
Maintain good communication with supervisors and crew members to ensure safe and productive operations.
Perform routine inspections on the equipment and general truck conditions.
Maintain accurate logs, equipment maintenance, and any incidents or issues encountered during operations.
Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and others on-site.
Communicate effectively with site supervisors, construction teams, and other operators
Perform other duties as assigned by supervision and as required by operational demands,
Requirements and Competencies:
Class five (5) Drivers License required.
Satisfactory 5-year Drivers Abstract.
Ability to access all client sites as required.
Able to work in all weather and working site conditions.
Physically able to complete the duties of the position.
Successfully complete pre-employment testing: drug & alcohol, physical abilities and other testing.
Common Safety Orientation (CSO) certification or equivalent.
Previous experience an asset.
Schedule:
The schedule is 5 days on, followed by 2 days off, working 10-hour days, Subject to change
