The System Operator is responsible for the economic dispatch and reliable operation of generation facilities during normal and emergency conditions. They manage energy schedules, coordinate transmission, and ensure compliance with NERC and WECC reliability standards.

Under the general supervision of the BA Reliability Supervisor is responsible for the economic dispatch and reliable operation of EPE’s generation facilities during normal and emergency system conditions. BA Operator is responsible for implementing energy schedules, operating the phase shifter, and issuing switching orders for generators operating within EPE’s Balancing Area, processing Real Time Electronic tags (ETags), coordinating and implementing real time energy and transmission schedules. Accountable for maintaining and updating the generator outage database, as well as, calculating forced outage rates and forecast error. Complies with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) reliability standards in meeting interchange, load, and generation needs as EPE’ Balancing Authority.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering or other analytical/technical field with basic knowledge of electric theory or power systems; or an equivalent combination of related training and experience.
*NERC operator certification or ability to obtain certification within in (6) months of hire date.

Today, El Paso Electric is a regional electric utility providing generation, transmission and distribution service to approximately 384,000 retail and wholesale customers in a 10,000 square mile area of the Rio Grande valley in west Texas and southern New Mexico. Its service territory extends from Hatch, New Mexico to Van Horn, Texas and includes two connections to Juarez, Mexico and the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), Mexico’s national utility. It’s facilities include a 15.8 percent interest in the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station in Wintersburg, Arizona, a 7 percent interest in the Four Corners Station in northwestern New Mexico, the Rio Grande Power Station in Sunland Park, New Mexico, the Newman Power Station and the Copper Power Station in El Paso and the Hueco Mountain Wind Ranch in Hudspeth County, Texas.
