We combine the Alberta Education curriculum with the International Baccalaureate philosophy, fostering inquiry, critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and lifelong learning.
We are seeking an inspiring and visionary School Principal who is passionate about student success, instructional excellence, and collaborative leadership. This individual will lead our school community with integrity, innovation, and a deep commitment to creating an inclusive, engaging, and high-performing learning environment.
The School Principal serves as the educational and operational leader of the school, providing strategic direction in teaching and learning, staff development, student well-being, school operations, and community engagement. The successful candidate will champion the International Baccalaureate philosophy while ensuring excellence in the delivery of the Alberta curriculum.
This role requires an experienced instructional leader who can inspire educators, build strong relationships with families, and cultivate a positive school culture where every student thrives academically, socially, emotionally, and ethically.
Key Responsibilities
Academic & Instructional Leadership
Provide visionary leadership that promotes excellence in teaching and student achievement.
Lead the implementation of the Alberta curriculum through inquiry-based, student-centred instructional practices.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and professional learning.
Conduct regular classroom observations and provide constructive coaching and feedback.
Analyze student achievement data to guide instructional planning and school improvement initiatives.
Ensure high academic standards and accountability across all grade levels.
International Baccalaureate (IB) Leadership
Champion the philosophy, standards, and practices of the International Baccalaureate.
Support the successful implementation and continuous development of the IB programme.
Ensure curriculum planning aligns with both Alberta Education requirements and IB expectations.
Promote inquiry, reflection, global citizenship, and intercultural understanding throughout the school.
Support staff in implementing IB frameworks, assessments, and collaborative planning practices.
Lead the school through IB authorization, evaluation, and ongoing programme development where applicable.
School Leadership & Culture
Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and values-based school culture grounded in respect, integrity, empathy, and excellence.
Build meaningful relationships with students, staff, parents, and the broader school community.
Promote student well-being, character development, and positive behaviour.
Inspire innovation, collaboration, and shared leadership among staff.
Lead school-wide initiatives that enhance student engagement and school improvement.
Operational & Administrative Leadership
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school.
Ensure effective scheduling, supervision, staffing, and resource allocation.
Maintain a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment.
Ensure compliance with Alberta Education legislation, school policies, and IB standards.
Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and organizational development.
Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and professional growth of staff.
Community Engagement
Develop strong partnerships with parents, families, and community organizations.
Communicate openly, professionally, and effectively with all stakeholders.
Represent the school at community events, educational meetings, and IB-related activities.
Promote the school's vision, mission, and values within the wider community.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or an equivalent degree recognized by Alberta Education (required).
Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field is preferred.
Licence & Certifications
Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate (required).
Alberta Leadership Quality Standard (LQS) Certification or eligibility to obtain it.
Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
Standard First Aid & CPR Certification is considered an asset.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of successful teaching experience in a K–12 educational setting.
Minimum 3 years of progressive school leadership experience as a Principal, Assistant Principal, Vice Principal, or equivalent leadership role.
Experience leading school improvement initiatives, instructional coaching, and staff development.
Experience with strategic planning, school operations, budgeting, and performance management.
Experience working in an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School or Candidate School is strongly preferred.
Experience in an independent or faith-based school is considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong knowledge of Alberta Education curriculum, policies, and legislative requirements.
Thorough understanding of International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy, standards, and inquiry-based learning.
Demonstrated expertise in instructional leadership, curriculum implementation, and assessment practices.
Proven ability to lead diverse teams, build collaborative relationships, and foster a positive school culture.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
Commitment to equity, inclusion, student well-being, and values-based education.
Proficiency with educational technology and student information systems is considered an asset.
Working Conditions
Full-time leadership position responsible for the overall academic, operational, and administrative management of the school.
Regular interaction with students, staff, parents, community partners, and external stakeholders.
Occasional evening and weekend commitments for school events, parent meetings, Board meetings, professional development, and community engagement activities.
Availability to attend school functions, educational conferences, International Baccalaureate (IB) meetings, and Alberta Education-related events as required.
Regular supervision of school operations, classrooms, staff, and student activities to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.
Ability to respond effectively to urgent operational, student, or staff matters as they arise.
Work is primarily performed in a school environment with periodic travel for meetings, training, and educational events.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with Alberta Education, IB standards, and school policies at all times.
