Full job description
Company Description
Masdar is the UAE’s clean energy champion and one of the largest companies of its kind in the world, advancing the development and deployment of renewable energy and green hydrogen technologies to address global sustainability challenges. Established in 2006, Masdar is today active in over 40 countries, helping them to achieve their clean energy objectives and advance sustainable development.
Masdar is jointly owned by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Mubadala Investment Company (Mubadala), and Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), and under this ownership the company is targeting a renewable energy portfolio capacity of at least 100 gigawatts (GW) by 2030 and an annual green hydrogen production capacity of up to 1 million tonnes by the same year.
Job Description
Please note: Applicants should be UK based and already have the right to work here.
To build and maintain Masdar’s in-house commercial intelligence and modelling capability for European power and renewables markets, supporting investment, auction, asset monetisation and portfolio strategy decisions across offshore wind, onshore wind, solar PV, BESS and hybrid assets.
The role will translate market fundamentals, regulatory evolution, grid constraints, revenue structures and commercial risk into clear recommendations that help Masdar deploy capital efficiently, compete credibly, manage merchant exposure and support its ambition to be a global clean energy powerhouse
Responsibilities
European market intelligence and strategy
Build a continuously refreshed view of European power-market fundamentals, including supply-demand balance, renewables penetration, gas and carbon exposure, grid constraints, interconnection, curtailment, capture prices, imbalance, ancillary services and capacity markets
Understand the impact of changes to regulatory frameworks and energy market designs and quantifying the effects of those changes on revenues
Build internal market intelligence of renewables and develop modelling capabilities to reduce reliance on external market advisors.
Maintain a priority-market knowledge base covering the UK, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Poland, the Netherlands, Nordics/Baltics and other markets relevant to Masdar’s European growth agenda
Convert market intelligence into actionable implications for Masdar’s portfolio, market entry decisions, bid strategy, partnerships and risk appetite
Market Modelling and analysis
Provide commercial insight and market analysis (for different electricity markets) including renewable auction modelling for different RES technologies (offshore wind and battery storage)
Analise short, medium- and long-term revenue stack evolution for wind, solar, BESS and hybrid assets, including merchant, contracted and semi-contracted structures.
Understand, analyse and provide all commercial inputs required for business models required for financial and investment decision making including focus on; power prices, imbalance costs, market values/captured prices, curtailments, ancillary services etc
Analyse short/medium/long-term developments in various power markets based upon a thorough understanding of market fundamentals, regulatory developments, renewable penetration, storage growth etc
Provide a comprehensive understanding of different Corporate Power Purchase Agreements available in certain markets and expected pricing and structures available
Interpretation and ownership of any third party revenue curves and assumptions that are provided to Masdar as part of every day course of business but also specifically as part of M&A transactions
Route to Market and asset monetisation
Assess and compare route-to-market options including CfDs, corporate PPAs, utility PPAs, tolling, floors, revenue share, merchant exposure, capacity-market contracts, ancillary services and hybrid / co-located commercial structures.
Develop recommendations on offtake strategy, tenor, risk allocation, downside protection, upside sharing, bankability, financing implications and alignment with Masdar’s portfolio risk-return objectives.
Support offtaker mapping and commercial positioning with utilities, corporates, data centres, industrials and other counterparties with material demand for clean power and flexibility.
Prepare clear assumptions for financial models, investment papers and approval materials, including sensitivities around price volatility, capture-rate compression, cannibalisation and system flexibility value.
Auctions, bid and competitive positioning
Support seabed, renewable support scheme, capacity-market and other competitive processes by assessing rules, competitor strategies, merit order, price-setting dynamics and bid sensitivities.
Build project and competitor datasets that assess relative competitiveness based on site, technology, grid, route-to-market, policy, consenting, supply chain, financing and partnership factors.
Provide evidence-based bid strategy considerations, including walk-away logic, upside/downside scenarios, qualitative differentiation and alignment with Masdar’s investment thresholds.
Support lessons-learned and capability building after each bid or transaction to strengthen Masdar’s repeatable “bidding machine” and internal market intelligence.
BESS, flexibility and hybridisation strategy
Contribute to Masdar’s European storage and flexibility strategy by assessing BESS market attractiveness, revenue depth, duration value, location value, grid constraints and route-to-market maturity.
Analyse portfolio synergies between renewables and BESS, including hybridisation, co-location, hedging of capture-price risk, congestion management, balancing value and potential 24/7 clean-power propositions.
Support portfolio risk-return analysis across markets and technologies, considering diversification value, correlation of revenues, merchant exposure, contracted revenue share and capital allocation trade-offs.
Monitor emerging flexibility products and markets, including long-duration storage, demand response, reserve products, grid services and data-centre driven load growth.
Third party contractors and advisers
Where Masdar cannot perform required market analysis internally, create an appropriate scope of work for third parties to provide such services.
Following contracting with any contractor/adviser, provide direction, steer and critical review and approval of the outputs of the contractor/adviser
Contribution to stakeholder relations
Build and maintain a network of relevant contacts to support daily activities and long-term objectives of the team.
Engage with and monitor relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to ensure adequate knowledge transfer and completion of services as per agreed parameters.
Compliance with standards and forms
Apply consistent approaches/discipline and standardized forms in line with relevant policies, processes and procedures.
Preparation of relevant updates and reports
Prepare relevant reports and updates as required and to the desired standard.
Provide management information as and when required by the line manager – this includes the production and timely provision of accurate reports in line with reporting schedules.

Relevant Master’s/PhD degree, CFA or energy-market qualification is an asset.
Preferred Experience:
At least 5 years of experience in power markets, renewables, BESS, utilities, trading, investment, asset management or energy advisory.
Hands-on experience with commercial modelling, market analysis, revenue forecasting and investment support for renewables and/or flexibility assets.
Exposure to European power markets and route-to-market structures; experience with offshore wind, BESS, PPAs, CfDs, auctions or capacity markets is highly desirable
