Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community.
Position Overview
Are you a hands-on problem solver who takes pride in keeping buildings safe, functional, and welcoming? Ted Kuhn Towers, a vibrant and diverse residential community in the heart of Surrey, is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Worker to join our team. In this vital role, you’ll help maintain two well-used buildings—one high-rise and one low-rise—that serve as a stable and supportive home for individuals overcoming complex life challenges. Your work will make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents every day.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of common areas, vacant units, and building systems at Ted Kuhn Towers. Key responsibilities include performing routine maintenance and minor repairs (electrical, plumbing, carpentry), conducting inspections, responding to resident inquiries and emergencies, and coordinating with contractors. The role also involves maintaining accurate records, assisting with move-in/move-out processes, handling abandoned belongings in accordance with policy, and supporting vulnerable residents with professionalism and care. Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are essential to successfully manage a broad range of duties in this dynamic environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this positionwillhave a certificate in a relevant trade or skill area, along with at least two years of recent related experience—or a combination of education, training, and experience. A valid First Aid Certificate and WHMIS certification are considered assets.
The candidate should possess hands-on skills across multiple maintenance trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting, along with strong problem-solving abilities. They must be capable of staying calm under pressure and effectively managing interactions with vulnerable or challenging individuals. A solid understanding of OCS policies, housing programs, and the social issues affecting housing and support services is essential, as is the ability to apply conflict resolution and interpersonal skills in a supportive, community-focused environment.
This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
