Full job description
Position Summary
This is a travel-based, hands-on field role. The Site Survey Technician spends the majority of each month on the road (typically every week away from home) traveling to client sites across the country to capture accurate survey data for architectural documentation using LiDAR scanners, 360-degree cameras, and drone photography. Technicians work independently, covering 5–8 client sites per week, and are responsible for delivering high-quality point clouds, imagery, and site reports that meet company and client standards.
Is This Role Right for You?
Before you apply, here's what a typical week actually looks like: early flights or long drives to reach client sites, multiple site visits per week, nights in hotels away from home, and full days on your feet, including climbing ladders and working on rooftops while carrying scanning equipment (up to 30 lbs). This role suits someone who thrives on the road, works well independently without daily in-person supervision, and is physically ready for sustained fieldwork in varying weather and site conditions.
If steady time at home each week is a priority for you right now, this role likely isn't the right fit and we'd rather you know that before you apply than after your first week on the road.
Essential Functions
Travel to multiple project sites weekly (4-5 sites depending on scope), spending the large majority of each month on the road; manage equipment and travel logistics independently
Conduct site surveys using LiDAR scanners to capture accurate point cloud data
Capture comprehensive 360-degree images, HD photos, and drone photography per checklists
Complete Site Investigation Reports, including BIR and ADA documentation
Register, index, and QA point clouds before uploading to PropertyBox
Coordinate with site contacts, conduct walkthroughs, and prepare work areas
Upload all survey data (point clouds, images, reports) promptly and organized correctly
Communicate with the Survey Manager regarding schedules, site issues, and deliverables — including proactive check-ins while traveling
Maintain and care for survey equipment, including scanners, cameras, and drones
Follow safety protocols and comply with all client site requirements
Identify opportunities to improve survey processes and share ideas with the Survey Manager
Test new techniques or equipment when directed and provide feedback
Physical Demands
This role requires sustained physical activity in the field, every week, at client sites you won't have visited before. Candidates should be able to:
Carry and set up scanning equipment weighing up to 30 lbs, multiple times per day
Climb ladders and access rooftops and other elevated surfaces as a routine part of site work
Work comfortably at height. This role regularly requires roof and elevated-site access
Stand, walk, and remain on your feet for extended periods across a full workday
Work outdoors in a range of weather conditions
Required Competencies
Genuinely comfortable with a travel-heavy schedule and frequent changes to itinerary - this is the single most important fit factor for this role
Ability to work independently without direct supervision
Technical aptitude for operating scanning and imaging equipment
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection
Professional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills — this is a client-facing role on customer sites
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based applications
Valid driver's license and eligibility to work in the U.S.
