ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Clinical Lead works closely with the Practice Manager and/or Clinical Supervisor, assuming responsibility for:
Vaccine reconciliation and inventory
VFC Coordinator or back-up coordinator
Lab oversight
Clinical supply inventory
Medication counts
Performing chart audits and competency testing
Monitoring medical equipment to ensure it is in good working condition and meets regulatory standards for routine preventive maintenance
The Clinical Lead performs all duties required of a Medical Assistant Level I and Level II, successfully maintaining competency in all areas of clinical care.
Accurately obtains and documents chief complaint for patient visit, all vital signs, medication requests, allergies, etc.
Prepares exam room and patient for specific type of visit
Collects specimens and uses appropriate equipment and protocols for specimen collection, processing, handling, and storage. Ensures all specimens are tracked/logged prior to transportation to lab.
Performs all orders/instructions as recorded and instructed by the provider/standing order
Clearly and accurately documents all aspects of patient care in the electronic health record
Accurately prepares and administers medications, injections, and immunizations as per standing order and/or provider order. Demonstrates proper handling, storage, and record-keeping of vaccines.
Provides patient educational materials and ensures patient understanding of illness and/or treatment plan as directed by the provider.
Completes pre-visit chart prep for each patient daily as according to established guidelines. Participates in daily huddles with the provider and multidisciplinary care team.
Efficiently manages daily patient flow to handle fluctuating patient volumes, demands, and delays.
Prioritizes tasks and activities that are delegated by the provider and care team, including, but not limited to, inbox management in the electronic health record
Completes referral needs for patients, including scheduling and arranging appointments and prior authorization
Reviews labs, x-rays, test results, and clinical documents and follows up with provider on urgent results
Effectively presents clinical information to the care team
Maintains proper medical supply inventory in all patient care areas. Ensures exam rooms are adequately stocked with unexpired medical supplies and have equipment in proper working condition
Properly handles, stores, and cleans instruments, equipment, and supplies per manufacturer guidelines
Performs all lab and office opening/closing procedures, including end-of-day cash drawer reconciliation
Maintains required clinical competencies, clearances, and licensure
Greets and registers patients collecting accurate demographic and insurance information and documenting accurately in the electronic health record
Assists patients with applying for the reduced fee program in accordance with established policies and procedures
Answers telephones, routes callers, takes messages, and provides information to callers
Collects patient payments at time of service and accurately processes payments. Researches and resolves billing and insurance-related questions for patients
Schedules appointments for patients in the electronic health record
Maintains a working knowledge of health insurances and payer types
Accurately processes and classifies documents in the electronic health record
Performs all other duties as assigned

Travels, as necessary, to other FFH locations to support the healthcare teams at other sites

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program.
Current CPR certification, completion of Narcan training upon hire.
English proficiency required; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Knowledge of computer software applications (Microsoft Office Applications, others) and medical terminology.
Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation as it relates to correspondence necessary to perform essential job functions
Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make calculations, balance and reconcile figures necessary, and make changes accurately
Excellent customer service skills
Skill in operating office equipment
Ability to critically think which means the ability to think clearly and rationally about what to do or what to believe; understand logical connections between ideas; and identify, construct, and evaluate arguments
