Perform general clerical and routine accounting duties to support district and school-based work-sites. Responsibilities include managing customer inquiries, handling correspondence, maintaining files, and processing daily deposits.
Requires a high school diploma or GED and 2 to 4 months of experience in library work or related clerical duties. Candidates must possess basic mathematical aptitude and the ability to operate standard office equipment.
Salary Schedule
Under direct supervision, the purpose of this position is to perform district based and school based duties associated with general clerical duties in support of the work-site. Such work sites may include a district office setting, a school office setting or a technical center bookstore. Employees in this classification function at a routine accounting/clerical capacity and close out cash registers, type letters and memos, and make daily deposits. Performs related work as directed.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSResponds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.Responds to visitor, customer, parent or student complaints and strives to effectively resolve the issues.Answers telephone calls and takes messages, provides information and assistance.Greets visitors including parents and students and customers and provides assistance and information about the work-site.Schedules appointments, meetings and conferences.Type letters, reports, correspondence and newsletters.Maintains inventory of supplies and orders accordingly, prepares inventory reports.Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; utilizes word processing, database and software programs.Distributes payroll checks to staff and teachers.Prepares monthly billing for bookstores.Maintains filing system.Operates a variety of machinery, equipment and tools associated with department/work location activities, which may include a typewriter, copy machine or fax.Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. OCPS is the 8th largest school district in the U.S. with more than 200 schools, about 209,000 students & 24,000 staff.
Orange County Public Schools is recognized as one of the top urban school districts in the nation – the 8th largest school district in America (4th in Florida) with 210 traditional schools, approximately 206,000 students and over 24,000 employees. OCPS students enjoy equity and access to a wide variety of educational opportunities, including magnet programs with specialized curriculum from Kindergarten to 12th grade. OCPS is also known for encouraging students to pursue college credits through Advanced Placement courses. In fact, OCPS high school graduates pass AP exams at a higher rate than students in Massachusetts, the highest scoring state in America. Career and technical education programs are infused in middle and high school curriculum, where students can explore career options, earn industry certifications and even receive an AA degree when they graduate. Every year, more than 100 graduates from OCPS high schools are accepted into top-20 colleges and universities around the country, as well as U.S. service academies. The district also boasts a 97.9% graduate rate among its 20 traditional high schools. By 2020, every OCPS student had a laptop or digital device as a part of an aggressive and innovative digital learning program. The Center for Digital Education and National School Boards Association ranks OCPS among the top 10 on its annual Digital School Districts Survey. Currently, every secondary student has a laptop. OCPS celebrated its 150th anniversary in December 2019.
