The Maintenance Mechanic ensures facility equipment and infrastructure operate safely, efficiently, and reliably, including material handling systems, conveyor lines, storage structures, lighting, and building systems. In partnership with the Maintenance Supervisor, this role provides proactive and responsive maintenance support to minimize downtime, extend equipment life, and maintain a safe work environment for all associates.
BE THE ISLAND GUIDE
Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair facility equipment, including lift equipment, conveyor systems, and storage rack structures.
Support the safe, efficient operation of all mechanical and electrical building systems.
Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on automated conveyors to maintain reliable operations.
Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair motor control centers and related control devices, including relays, timers, switches, and interlocks.
Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair variable frequency drives (VFDs) and direct current (DC) drives.
Install, troubleshoot, reprogram, and modify programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for equipment replacements or upgrades.
Perform basic electrical troubleshooting and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics accurately.
Apply facility maintenance skills in plumbing, lighting, carpentry, and related building upkeep.
Maintain and repair overhead doors, man doors, dock plates, and other building access equipment.
Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair basic security system faults.
Maintain and repair storage rack installations in accordance with established safety standards.
Use mechanical and electrical testing equipment to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
Respond promptly to routine and emergency maintenance needs to minimize equipment downtime.
Help develop and implement preventive maintenance procedures that extend equipment life and reduce unplanned repairs.
Coordinate with operations leaders to plan, schedule, and prioritize repairs while limiting production disruption.
Conduct periodic quality checks to confirm equipment and systems meet performance standards.
Review equipment manuals, work orders, and technical documentation to complete required maintenance activities.
Maintain accurate spare parts and supply inventory records to support timely repairs.
Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives within the Maintenance Department.
Use computer systems for data collection, work order documentation, and cross-department communication.
Communicate clearly with team members and cross-functional partners to support facility operations.
Ensure warehouse safety standards are met as outlined in Tommy Bahama’s Health and Safety Manual.
Follow all company safety rules and procedures, including OSHA Lockout/Tagout and Hazard Communication requirements.
Keep work areas clean and organized through regular housekeeping and equipment maintenance.
Perform other duties as assigned to support warehouse operations and business objectives.
ESSENTIALS FOR LIFE IN PARADISE
Education and Certifications
High school diploma or GED required.
Associate degree or trade/technical school training in applied technology, industrial technology, manufacturing technology, or a related field—or equivalent experience—preferred.
Experience and Skills
Typically requires 4+ years of hands-on experience as a millwright or in a comparable industrial mechanical/electrical troubleshooting role.
Experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Experience troubleshooting 480V, low-voltage, and DC systems, including VFDs and PLC control logic, with particular emphasis on Allen-Bradley controls.
Knowledge of electrical distribution principles and equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, disconnect switches, voltage regulators, automatic transfer switches, and power monitoring equipment.
Knowledge of electrical testing tools used for troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance, including AC/DC ammeters, mega-ohm meters, multimeters, oscilloscopes, tachometers, power quality analyzers, and thermal imaging equipment.
Knowledge and experience with PLC hardware, programming software, communication protocols, and variable frequency drives.
Experience with AC/DC motors, motor controls, and variable frequency drives.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word.
Strong understanding of hand and power tools, including proper use and general maintenance practices.
Working knowledge of OSHA safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout and Hazard Communication standards.
