Cedarville University invites applicants for the position of Project Manager – Campus Planning and Design. This is a full-time, exempt, on-site staff position in the Physical Plant – Maintenance Department within the Business Division. This position reports to the Director for Campus Planning and Design and works 2,080 annual hours.
The Project Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of campus renovation and construction projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with defined scope and quality standards. This role provides consistency and accountability throughout project execution by coordinating with campus departments, Physical Plant staff, contractors, and vendors. The Project Manager also maintains the Gordian database, develops lifecycle-based project recommendations, and supports long-term campus planning. This position is designated as emergency essential and may be required to report to work when the University is closed for normal business operations.
Essential Functions
Project Planning & Execution
Manage campus renovation and construction projects from initial scope development through completion.
Develop project timelines, budgets, and execution plans in coordination with the Associate Vice President for Operations.
Ensure projects are clearly defined before work begins to reduce delays and rework.
Coordination & Communication
Serve as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders.
Coordinate project scope definition and execution with Physical Plant staff, vendors, contractors, and campus departments.
Provide regular project updates to ensure transparency and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
Budget & Schedule Management
Track project budgets and expenses.
Monitor project schedules and proactively address delays or risks.
Assist in evaluating cost-effective solutions and resource allocation.
Maintain the Gordian Database
Maintain the Gordian database of Physical Plant assets.
Develop annual project recommendations for the Maintenance Fund based on asset lifecycle information.
Update the database as projects are completed or when asset replacement schedules change.
Determine the most effective method for completing projects using internal staff, contractors, or other resources.
Vendor & Contractor Oversight
Coordinate and manage external contractors and service providers.
Ensure work aligns with project scope, quality expectations, and campus standards.
Assist with bid processes and vendor selection as needed.
Quality & Accountability
Ensure projects meet design standards and functional requirements.
Conduct site visits and monitor project progress during construction.
Identify and resolve issues early to minimize project impacts.
Additional Responsibilities
Perform other duties as directed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Facilities Management, Architecture, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of certifications and experience.
Three to five years of project management experience, preferably in construction, facilities management, or higher education.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
Demonstrated experience working with contractors, project scheduling, and construction coordination.
Experience reading and interpreting blueprints.
Valid Ohio driver's license.

Required Physical/Mental Abilities
Ability to apply a variety of established procedures and practices while analyzing information and solving problems.
Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical work, including stooping, bending, climbing, pushing, pulling, and extensive walking, including stairs, ladders, basements, and rooftops.
Ability to occasionally lift or carry objects up to 50 pounds and regularly lift or carry objects up to 35 pounds.
Ability to perform tasks requiring climbing, balancing, lifting, reaching, crouching, kneeling, grasping, repetitive motion, pushing, pulling, talking, and hearing.
Environmental Considerations
Frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, air pollution, chemical substances, and hazardous conditions.
Occasional outdoor work, including snow removal and work in freezing temperatures.
