The Business Systems Analyst serves as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams translating business and data needs into clear, actionable technical requirements. This role supports ARI’s data and product initiatives through requirements analysis, functional specifications, product logic documentation, QA and user acceptance testing—to ensure data products and enhancements are accurate and reliable. The Business Systems Analyst also performs hands-on technical research using SQL, code, and data structures, partnering closely with the data and development teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
This position operates remotely with flexibility, requiring occasional in-person attendance for key meetings and collaborations as determined by leadership
What You’ll Do:
Analyze, document, and validate business and functional requirements for ARI's data and product initiatives.
Translate complex business and data needs into clear technical requirements, functional specifications, and user stories.
Analyze existing data products, business processes, system functionality, and data structures to identify gaps and recommend improvements.
Coordinate QA and user acceptance testing (UAT) for data products and system enhancements, developing test plans, scenarios, and acceptance criteria.
Design and create synthetic or other test data sets to validate data pipelines, edge cases, and product logic.
Validate data outputs, pipeline changes, and releases to confirm accuracy and stability before deployment.
Write and execute SQL queries to research, validate, and analyze data in support of requirements, testing, and issue resolution.
Research and interpret existing code, stored procedures, and data structures, to understand and document product logic and business rules in partnership with the technical teams.
Analyze data flows and system integrations to understand dependencies and support requirements, testing, and issue resolution.
Investigate complex product and data questions and develop clear technical documentation for technical and business audiences.
Serve as a key point of coordination between business stakeholders, development, and QA teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
Develop and maintain documentation, including process flows, data mappings, use cases, and requirements traceability.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation to improve data quality and efficiency.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need:
High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
3–5+ years of experience as a business systems analyst or in a related business/technical role, preferably supporting data or product initiatives.
Proven ability to analyze requirements and translate complex business and data needs into clear technical requirements and functional specifications.
Intermediate SQL skills, with hands-on experience querying and validating data in relational databases such as SQL Server or Oracle.
Experience supporting or coordinating QA and user acceptance testing, including designing test scenarios and creating test or synthetic data sets.
Ability to read and interpret existing code, stored procedures, and data structures to understand and document product logic.
Experience with data analysis and familiarity with ETL and data-integration concepts.
Ability to analyze technical processes, data flows, and system functionality and translate findings into clear business and technical documentation.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
Proficiency with JIRA, Confluence, or similar requirements and collaboration tools.
Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with or willingness to learn AI tools and emerging technologies.
What Can Set You Apart:
Advanced SQL skills, including experience with complex queries and stored procedures.
Experience with APIs, XML, JSON, or data-integration technologies.
Familiarity with object-oriented programming or scripting languages such as C#, Python, R, or Java.
