In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape the architectural direction of the firm, influence technology decisions at the highest levels, and leave a lasting impact on how we build and scale solutions globally.
As a Principal Architect at JPMorganChase within the Commercial & Investment Bank(Payments Technology), you provide deep expertise to enhance and evolve architecture platforms grounded in modern cloud-based technologies, while supporting the adoption of strategic global solutions. You will collaborate across the organization, apply your advanced architecture capabilities, and serve as a trusted advisor to engineering and business leaders — driving best-in-class outcomes that are secure, scalable, and built for the future.
Job responsibilities
Advise cross-functional teams on technology selection to achieve target-state architecture and guide decisions on improvements to current and emerging technologies
Develop multi-year technology roadmaps aligned with business strategy, architecture priorities, and digital transformation goals — with a focus on payments, client onboarding, and self-service experiences
Apply enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within architecture and engineering workflows to accelerate analysis, roadmap development, and design decisioning, with human-in-the-loop validation and appropriate handling of sensitive data
Establish reuse-first, AI-enabled engineering patterns and governance across the software development lifecycle and toolchain practices, ensuring traceability, auditability, resiliency, and security controls
Create complex and scalable coding frameworks using appropriate software design principles, focusing on durability and reuse to improve velocity and quality across teams and functions
Develop secure, high-quality production code and review and debug code written by others to uphold engineering excellence
Serve as the team's go-to subject matter expert and contribute to the development of technical methods in specialized fields, in line with the latest product development methodologies
Shape and influence the digital transformation strategy for payments, including digital onboarding, client self-service experiences, partner integrations, and developer experience platforms
Define and govern API standards, functional design, and integration patterns to enable scalable, secure, and interoperable solutions across internal and external ecosystems
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
Formal training or certification on architecture concepts and 10+ years applied experience
Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability at enterprise scale
Expertise in one or more programming languages with a strong foundation in software engineering principles
Deep knowledge of software, applications, and architecture — including advanced software architecture, application development, and technical processes within one or more disciplines (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile)
Demonstrated experience applying enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within architecture and engineering workflows, with strong validation habits and awareness of data sensitivity
Ability to evaluate and integrate AI-enabled capabilities into scalable platforms while meeting resiliency, security, and auditability requirements
Experience applying expertise and new methods to determine solutions for complex architecture problems across one or more technical disciplines
Experience leading a product as a product owner or product manager
Ability to present and effectively communicate complex technical concepts to senior leaders and executives
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
Strategic mindset in shaping digital transformation for payments businesses, including digital onboarding, client self-service experiences, partner integrations, and developer experience platforms
Strong experience with web developer frameworks, web architecture, and mobile frameworks
Strong experience in API design and governance, including API standards, functional architecture, and lifecycle management
Strong experience in identity and access management, including partner integration via APIs or web-based protocols
Strong experience in acquiring and merchant services payment ecosystems, including processing flows, settlement, and integration patterns
