Job Description and Requirements
ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for a dynamic, technically fluent, and hands-on Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team of software engineers. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of our product development by mentoring talent, driving architecture decisions, and accelerating adoption of modern technologies, including AI-driven and data-driven development practices.
As a technical leader, you will play a key role in designing and evolving scalable, API-first architectures, leveraging modern data platforms (e.g., MongoDB) and integrating AI capabilities directly into the software development lifecycle and product experience. You will foster a culture of engineering excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement while ensuring our solutions remain competitive, scalable, and impactful.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Lead and mentor a team of software engineers and/or architects across multiple product areas
Drive development of existing applications and new platforms, with a strong emphasis on AI-driven and data-driven capabilities
Architect and promote API-first, service-oriented systems, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and extensibility
Provide hands-on technical contribution in software design, coding, and system integration when needed
Guide adoption of modern data technologies, including NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB), and ensure effective data modeling, ingestion, and transformation strategies
Enable teams to build intelligent, AI-powered features leveraging LLMs and machine learning integrations via APIs
Allocate and validate engineering resources based on Scrum team needs and business priorities
Ensure best practices in secure, scalable API design and integration patterns (REST, event-driven, and microservices)
Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations
Promote domain knowledge sharing and technical excellence across the team
Provide technical leadership and act as a strategic advisor to business stakeholders
Represent direct reports in discussions around career growth, assignments, and opportunities
Stay current with industry trends across AI, distributed systems, and data platforms, ensuring continuous innovation
Support organizational initiatives, including process improvements, AI adoption, and engineering maturity
Occasionally participate in Level II technical support after hours, as needed
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Required
5+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role
Proven ability to hire, lead, and grow high-performing engineering teams
Strong hands-on experience with software development and programming (e.g., Java, Python, or similar)
Experience designing and building API-based / microservices architectures
Practical experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB) and modern data platforms
Solid understanding of data-driven development, including data modeling, ingestion, and processing pipelines
Experience integrating AI tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude, Cursor) and AI-powered APIs into development workflows and products
Experience with SaaS or enterprise-scale distributed systems
Strong understanding of system design, scalability, and reliability principles (SLOs, observability, etc.)
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
Preferred
Experience building AI-powered applications or AI-native features (prompt engineering, RAG, LLM integrations)
Experience with event-driven architectures and streaming platforms
Experience with government-facing applications within FedRAMP compliance
Background in legal tech or eDiscovery
Exposure to strategic planning and execution at scale
Passion for building intuitive, data-informed user experiences
