The Mental Health Support Monitor ensures a safe, trauma-informed environment at the Jugan Emergency Shelter by monitoring activities and responding to crises. They build supportive relationships with guests to encourage engagement in behavioral health services and assist with daily shelter operations.
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with one year of experience working with populations experiencing homelessness, mental illness, or substance abuse. CPR/First Aid and MANDT training are required or must be obtained shortly after hire.
Under the supervision of the Safety & Training Specialist, the Mental Health Support Monitor (MHSM) promotes a safe, secure, and trauma-informed environment for individuals residing at Jugan Emergency Shelter. The MHSM actively engages with shelter guests, monitors shelter activities, responds to crisis situations, and supports the daily operations of the shelter while helping connect clients with behavioral health and supportive services.
In addition to shelter monitoring responsibilities, the Mental Health Support Monitor supports the Healthy Shelter Project by building positive relationships with clients, encouraging engagement in behavioral health services, assisting with referrals to the Mental Health Support Specialist, and reinforcing client participation in treatment and supportive services.

This position operates primarily at Jugan Emergency Shelter located within PPCS Community Campus. The MHS Monitor will be assigned to a station located within Jugan Shelter. This position requires regular movement throughout the shelter to engage clients, monitor client well-being, observe shelter activities, and respond to client needs and crisis situations. The position also includes documentation duties and attendance at staff meetings.
