SFAPD's pretrial, reentry, and rehabilitative services complement its supervision strategies by providing a unique blend of opportunity and accountability. The Department extends a continuum of integrated services to address clients' criminogenic needs and empower them to become productive members of the community. SFAPD dedicates endless energy toward enhancing public safety, seeking victim restoration, enforcing court-ordered accountability, providing structured evidence-based supervision, and operating comprehensive pretrial services on behalf of the Superior Court of San Francisco.
Job Description
The San Francisco Adult Probation Department (SFAPD) is seeking a motivated Pretrial Monitoring Support Specialist. Working under minimal supervision, this role serves as an operational hub delivering critical intelligence, managing complex case data, and supporting critical functions such as electronic monitoring (EM) technology. The Specialist ensures client compliance with court-ordered conditions, analyzing alert data, troubleshooting equipment, tracking referrals for services, and providing staff with timely actionable information to maintain public safety and seamless monitoring operations.
Cross-Divisional Collaboration
In addition to core duties, incumbent will assist the Reentry and Violence Response service units. The Pretrial, Reentry, and Violence Response divisions are responsible for coordinated service delivery, consistent program quality, and alignment with the department’s mission of promoting safety, accountability, and equitable justice outcomes. Collaboration across these divisions strengthens continuity of care, reduces system involvement, and enhances long-term client outcomes.
Examples of Important and Essential Duties
In accordance with Civil Service Commission Rule 109, duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Pretrial Monitoring & Client Support:
Support the daily monitoring of clients participating in pretrial supervision, review alerts and compliance information, and promptly communicate issues requiring staff follow-up.
Client & Community Engagement: Work directly with clients in the community to support compliance, reinforce supervision expectations, address barriers, and help connect individuals with appropriate resources and services. Support community events and activities including being a representative of the department. Receive and welcome clients in the office and community to direct them to services and guide them to the appropriate location or office.
Provider Coordination & Client Transportation: Coordinate with community-based organizations and service providers to facilitate referrals, appointments, and program participation, including transporting clients to treatment, services, and other approved programs when needed.
Program, Technology & Operational Support: Assist with monitoring equipment, technology, records, inventory, data entry, and other operational needs while supporting implementation of new systems, procedures, and pretrial initiatives.
Intelligence & Community Support
Provide Actionable Intelligence: Maintain real-time and historical data to staff and supervisors, including location trends, compliance patterns, incident alerts, and risk indicators.
Support Monitoring Support staff by summarizing client history, and safety concerns
Inter-Agency Communication: Relay time-sensitive information regarding successful completions, violations, tech failures, or program compliance.
Court & Report Support: Assist with pre-court preparation by creating data summaries, timelines of events, and compliance progress reports and court reporting.
Data Integrity, Compliance & Analysis
Case Management: Maintain accurate, confidential records of court orders, curfews, geofence rules, and historical compliance logs.
Documentation: Input timely case notes documenting alerts handled, actions taken, and communications with officers or courts. Provide information to staff in court and support all court functions in a supportive role
Pattern Analysis: Analyze monitoring data to identify trends such as absconding risks, chronic tampering, or behavior requiring supervisory intervention.
Qualifications
Training and Experience:
Applicants will be required to meet guidelines as established for each program; requirements for previous training and experience will be minimal. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Requires an indicated interest and aptitude in those skills associated with the target employment and a willingness and ability to acquire the needed skills and academic standards through training and work experience.
High School diploma or GED
Six (6) months- one (1) year of general experience. Qualifying entry-level analytical work includes analysis, development, administration, and reporting in programs and functions of an organization in areas such as budgets, contracts, grants, policy, or other functional areas related to the duties of positions in the 1822 Class series.
A valid California Class “C” Driver’s License is required to perform job-related essential functions.
Substitution:
6 months of education (15 semester units) or technical training exp. May be substituted for 6 months of experience.
