Specialist in Dental Public Health - Permanent & Part-Time
The Dublin Dental University Hospital (DDUH) wishes to recruit a Specialist in Dental Public Health. The primary purpose of this post is to contribute to the teaching, research, leadership and administrative activities within the School of Dental Science and at the Dublin Dental University Hospital (DDUH). This is a permanent, part-time position with 23.2 hours per week (3 days).
The appointee will be responsible for the development of the field of Dental Education in the DDUH. The position reports and is accountable to the Head of Division and ultimately the Dean for educational and research matters. Overall post management is undertaken by the Executive team of the DDUH comprising the CEO, Dean and Clinical Director.
Outline of Duties and Responsibilities
Education
Contribute to the delivery and development of undergraduate Dental Public Health teaching within the School of Dental Science and DDUH.
Support the delivery of teaching in areas including prevention, oral health promotion, epidemiology, population oral health, sustainability, healthcare systems and oral health inequalities.
Participate in curriculum review and development activities across undergraduate dental programmes and contribute to postgraduate teaching where appropriate.
Contribute to the development and evaluation of teaching, assessment and student learning activities in line with university policy and accreditation standards.
Work collaboratively with the Associate Professor in Dental Public Health and academic colleagues to support high-quality, evidence-based and student-centred education.
Support student supervision, mentoring and academic development across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Engage in interdisciplinary teaching and collaboration across the Faculty of Health Sciences and associated healthcare settings.
Contribute to quality assurance, accreditation and programme review activities relevant to Dental Public Health teaching.
Research/DPH Service Delivery
Develop an independent research interest in the area of Dental Public Health and related disciplines, present findings at academic meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals of national and international standing.
Contribute to the overall research profile of the DDUH/School of Dental Science. Expectations will be agreed with the Head of Division and Head of School through annual job planning processes.
Collaborate with colleagues across the Faculty of Health Sciences and with relevant national and international partners in areas related to Dental Public Health, prevention, population oral health, sustainability and health services research.
Offer and support undergraduate and postgraduate student research opportunities within Dental Public Health and related areas.
Develop networks of professional relationships across the University, School and external organisations, both nationally and internationally, to support collaboration, scholarship, research development and innovation in Dental Public Health.
Standard Duties
Contribute to supporting the development of the discipline of DPH.
Be involved in the administration and future development of related undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Assume leadership and managerial roles within the School of Dental Science.
Engage in continuous personal and professional development which is consistent with the needs of the discipline of dental education.
Participate in the wider academic life of the College as appropriate.

Qualifications, Experience & Person Specification
Qualifications(Essential)
Candidates must hold, or be close to completion of, a recognized specialist qualification or postgraduate training programme in Dental Public Health or a related field.
A Masters in Public Health.
Relevant university level teaching experience.
Relevant level of peer reviewed scientific publications.
Be eligible for registration with the Dental Council of Ireland in a division that permits clinical and/or academic practice relevant to the role.
Knowledge & Experience: Education
The successful candidate will be expected to clearly demonstrate the following:
Experience in teaching Dental Public Health and related disciplines within undergraduate and/or postgraduate dental programmes.
Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary issues in Dental Public Health including prevention, oral health promotion, oral health inequalities, population health, healthcare systems, sustainability and evidence-based practice.
Experience in curriculum development, programme delivery and student assessment within higher education.
Evidence of high-quality teaching delivery across lectures, tutorials, small group teaching and/or blended learning environments.
Experience supervising undergraduate and/or postgraduate student research projects.
Knowledge of epidemiology, public health research methods, biostatistics and interpretation of healthcare data relevant to oral health.
Experience contributing to service resdesign, research, scholarship and publication in Dental Public Health or related disciplines.
Experience of interdisciplinary collaboration across clinical, academic and public health settings.
Evidence of student mentorship and academic support.
Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Evidence of commitment to innovation, continuous improvement and excellence in teaching and research.
Knowledge & Experience: Research & Scholarship
Demonstrate a proven ability, or evidence of potential to, conduct dental public health research.
Demonstrate evidence of publication of articles in the dental education field in national/international peer-reviewed journals.
Demonstrate knowledge of recent research in the field of dental public health.
Knowledge & Experience: Administration, contribution to field
Ability to undertake administrative responsibilities as required by the School, DDUH and University (in particular accreditation and quality reviews).
Ability to represent the School and University on appropriate national and international advisory boards and professional bodies.
Organisational skills necessary to the performance of teaching, research, and administration requirements of the role of Assistant Professor.
Leadership
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
