Position Overview
MEI Group is seeking an experienced Body Shop Heavy Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Collision Center team. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and replacing major mechanical and electrical systems on collision-damaged vehicles. The ideal candidate has advanced diagnostic abilities, extensive mechanical knowledge, and the expertise to restore vehicles to OEM standards while working closely with body technicians, estimators, and management.
What You'll Do
Diagnose and repair major mechanical and electrical systems on collision-damaged vehicles. Remove, rebuild, and replace engines, transmissions, differentials, transfer cases, and drivetrain components. Repair steering, suspension, brake, cooling, HVAC, fuel, and exhaust systems. Perform advanced electrical diagnostics using OEM wiring diagrams, scan tools, digital multimeters (DVOM), and oscilloscopes. Diagnose and repair wiring harnesses, connectors, control modules, CAN Bus and LIN Bus communication systems. Diagnose and repair ABS, SRS, charging, starting, stability control, and electronic accessory systems. Assist with ADAS component replacement preparation and post-repair verification. Support module programming and steering angle sensor calibration when applicable. Inspect collision damage affecting mechanical systems and identify hidden damage. Assist body technicians with mechanical disassembly and reassembly. Work closely with estimators to identify supplemental repair needs. Perform road tests and final system verification before vehicle delivery. Document all diagnostic findings and completed repairs accurately. Follow OEM repair procedures and maintain high-quality workmanship.
What We're Looking For
Minimum of 5 years of heavy automotive mechanical repair experience. Minimum of 3 years of advanced electrical diagnostic experience. Experience supporting collision repair operations preferred. Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills. Strong understanding of vehicle communication networks, including CAN Bus and LIN Bus systems. Experience replacing complete engine and transmission assemblies. Ability to interpret OEM wiring diagrams and service information. Strong attention to detail and commitment to first-time quality repairs. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to operate OEM and aftermarket diagnostic equipment. Must provide a complete set of professional mechanic tools. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physical shop duties including standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. Ability to safely operate vehicle lifts, shop equipment, and power tools. Ability to successfully complete a background check and verify authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
ASE Certified Technician. ASE Advanced Engine Performance (L1) Certification. Electrical/Electronic Systems Certification. OEM Manufacturer Certifications (Ford, GM, Stellantis, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, etc.). I-CAR Mechanical & Electrical Training. ADAS Calibration Experience. Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Certification.
