Project Officer - Spatial (Environment Officer Class 7)
Temporary (up to 30 June 2029) full-time (35 hours per week) opportunity (with the possibility for ongoing or further extension, dependent on future funding)
Located in Newcastle (hybrid working supported)
Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $112,375 to $124,158 p.a. + super
About the role
Our Ecosystem Restoration team in the Ecosystems and Threatened Species branch is currently seeking to appoint a Project Officer – Spatial to support data processing and management, computer-based mapping and spatial analysis that translates complex ecological data into meaningful insights. The role will use high-quality spatial data to support evidence-based decision-making, effective project planning and reporting, and provide technical advice to enhance program outcomes across the Biodiversity Conservation Program and related projects.
About You
As a Project Officer – Spatial, you will be adept at collaborating effectively across a geographically dispersed project team and with external stakeholders to coordinate spatial projects and achieve agreed milestones and deliverables. To be successful in this role you will deliver high-quality mapping, modelling and spatial data analysis to provide accurate, evidence-based information that supports project objectives and informed decision-making.
Key knowledge and experience
An understanding of threatened species conservation, ecosystem management, and relevant NSW conservation frameworks, including the Biodiversity Conservation Program.

Relevant scientific qualifications.
Demonstrated expertise in GIS software programs and management of large datasets (environmental and spatial).
Demonstrated expertise in computer-based mapping and analysis of biodiversity and environmental spatial data.

DCCEEW conserves and protects the state’s natural environment. It manages the NSW national park estate, including its rich and diverse biodiversity and Aboriginal cultural heritage for future generations.
DCCEEW also ensures sustainable management of water resources across the state, to support the environment, communities and industry.
We acknowledge the ongoing custodial responsibilities of the Aboriginal peoples of NSW to care for Country and water and are committed to establishing meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal peoples in the management of the environment.
