Full job description
CMC Development & Construction is a general contracting firm with an uncompromising commitment to disciplined execution, safety, integrity, and the people who power our projects. We don't just build structures — we build careers, client trust, and lasting community impact. As we pursue our vision of becoming the premier general contractor in the United States, we are actively investing in the field leadership that makes exceptional projects possible. If you are a seasoned Superintendent who leads with accountability, takes pride in running clean and safe job sites, and wants to grow with a company that backs its field leaders — we want to hear from you.
Position Overview
The Construction Superintendent is the senior field leadership presence on CMC projects, responsible for ensuring that all field operations are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and client satisfaction. This role is the primary point of accountability for everything that happens on the job site — from the first shovel in the ground to final punch and owner acceptance.
The Superintendent manages and coordinates all trade contractors, enforces CMC's safety culture, maintains project momentum, and serves as CMC's most visible representative to owners, inspectors, trade partners, and the surrounding community. This is a role for a proven field leader, someone who commands respect, solves problems decisively, and holds the line on quality and safety without exception.
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Trade Contractor Management
Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day work of all trade contractors across multiple scopes and areas of the project simultaneously
Establish clear expectations, accountability standards, and performance benchmarks for all subcontractors on site
Resolve jurisdictional disputes, scope conflicts, and coordination issues with professionalism and decisiveness
Build and maintain credibility with owners, trade contractors, unions, and inspectors through consistent fairness and transparency
Serve as CMC's primary on-site representative and face of the project to all stakeholders
Safety Leadership
Champion and enforce CMC's safety culture — a clean, organized, hazard-free job site is non-negotiable
Conduct and document weekly safety inspections; identify, communicate, and correct unsafe conditions immediately
Ensure all workers and subcontractors are in compliance with OSHA regulations, CMC safety policies, and site-specific safety plans
Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and incident investigations as required
Set the tone that safety is the first priority — before schedule, before budget, always
Scheduling & Project Execution
Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop, maintain, and enforce the project schedule and milestone dates
Develop and manage look-ahead schedules with individual trade contractors to identify sequencing conflicts and resource gaps early
Coordinate general conditions work, project logistics, material deliveries, and site access to maintain project flow
Anticipate problems before they become delays — proactively identify risks and drive solutions in the field
Quality Control & Compliance
Inspect work in place for compliance with design standards, contract documents, and CMC's quality expectations
Identify deficiencies and ensure corrective action is taken promptly; document all quality issues and resolutions
Review and enforce contractor Quality Plans; hold subcontractors accountable to the standards they committed to
Review vendor drawings, submittals, and RFIs with the project team to ensure field compliance with the approved document set
Review construction details with architects, engineers, and subcontractors to confirm all work aligns with the design intent
Documentation & Reporting
Prepare and distribute clear, accurate daily field reports documenting site conditions, manpower, weather, progress, and issues
Maintain organized on-site records including safety logs, inspection reports, subcontractor coordination notes, and photo documentation
Communicate project status, risks, and field issues to the Project Manager and leadership team in a timely and professional manner
Qualifications & Requirements
Required
Minimum 10 years of direct experience as a Construction Superintendent on commercial or general contracting projects
Demonstrated ability to lead complex, multi-trade projects from groundbreaking through owner acceptance
OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification (current)
Strong technical knowledge across all divisions of construction work — methods, materials, systems, and sequencing
Proficiency in reading and interpreting full construction document sets including architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings and specifications
Demonstrated ability to build and manage detailed project schedules and look-ahead planning tools
Experience with project management software (Procore, Buildertrend, MS Project, or equivalent)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel
Excellent communication skills — written, verbal, and interpersonal — across all levels of the project team
Proven problem-solving ability and composure under pressure; able to make sound field decisions quickly
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams and priorities simultaneously
BS or MS degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field — OR equivalent combination of field experience and demonstrated results
Preferred
Experience managing projects in the $5M–$10M+ range across commercial, institutional, or industrial sectors
Experience with design-build or design-assist project delivery methods
Established subcontractor and trade partner relationships in the regional market
Experience mentoring and developing Assistant Superintendents or junior field staff
