Full job description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) serves customers and developers who rely on storage, compute, and our other service capabilities. Our customers trust us to handle their data with air-tight security measures, which is something that we guarantee.
We are looking for a Data Center Security Specialist to join our expanding Data Center Operations team. Our ideal candidate is detail-oriented, innovative, and professional. They have a passion for delighting customers, teamwork, and continuous improvement. The Data Center Security Specialist role encompasses oversight of contract employee deliverables and collaboration with Data Center Managers in order to devise security strategies, achieve financial targets, and to improve the overall operational security within our Data Centers. They will report to the Area Security Manager responsible for their Data Center Campus.
Key job responsibilities Coordinate the activities of a professional contract guard force and oversee vendor deliverables at your assigned site or campus Track service delivery against established SLAs and escalate corrective actions to senior team members as needed Conduct inspections, audits, and walkthroughs to identify vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with AWS security standards and policies Interface with vendors to coordinate system repairs, preventative maintenance, and new security construction Foster relationships with data center stakeholders to educate on security procedures and reduce false alarms Review and approve operational work activities that potentially affect physical security Provide guidance and support to vendors in the absence of SOPs or in situations that require escalation Extract metrics and analyze data to observe trends and drive improvements in security operations Collaborate with data center operations, colocation providers, and partner teams to accomplish operational consistency Support the development and implementation of security processes and procedures Travel between local sites as needed, up to 50% of the workweek
A day in the life As a Data Center Security Specialist, no two days are the same — but each one starts with keeping our customers' data safe. You'll begin your day reviewing overnight security activity, triaging operational tickets, and checking in with the contract guard force. Mid-morning might involve a site walkthrough to inspect access control points, cameras, and perimeter security — identifying anything that needs repair or attention. You'll coordinate with vendors on maintenance tickets and track open work orders against SLAs. After lunch, you might join a meeting with data center operations to align on an upcoming construction project or walk a new build site with security design standards in mind. You'll review alarm data to spot trends in false activations and work with stakeholders on reduction strategies. By the end of the day, you're documenting findings, updating metrics trackers, and preparing notes for your Area Security Manager. Some days will take you across multiple sites on your campus. Throughout it all, you're the on-the-ground expert making sure physical security standards are met and our customers can trust that their data is protected.
