Senior Tax Professional – High-Net-Worth Client Services
Exemplar Companies | Remote | Full-Time
About Exemplar Companies
Exemplar Companies is a multidisciplinary professional services organization providing integrated solutions across tax, legal, business consulting, capital, strategic advisory, wealth management, and financial services.
We work with high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, executives, investors, business owners, and their related businesses and entities.
Position Overview
Exemplar Companies is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Professional with 10+ years of client-facing tax and professional services experience to support high-net-worth individuals, business owners, entrepreneurs, executives, investors, partnerships, and related entities.
The successful candidate will have extensive hands-on experience preparing and filing complex federal and state tax returns for clients and will be comfortable managing a significant volume of tax filings throughout the year.
This is a client-facing tax and advisory position — not an internal corporate accounting or finance role.
We are looking for someone who has spent their career working directly with clients and understands the complexities that come with high-net-worth individuals, business owners, partnerships, pass-through entities, investments, real estate, and multi-state tax matters.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and review complex federal and state tax returns for high-net-worth individuals, business owners, partnerships, and related entities.
Prepare and review Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120-S, 1041, and related schedules and filings.
Manage tax matters involving multiple K-1s, partnerships, S corporations, LLCs, trusts, investment income, real estate holdings, and other pass-through entities.
Manage a substantial portfolio of client tax returns and filing deadlines.
Work directly with clients to gather information, resolve questions, explain tax matters, and ensure accurate and timely filings.
Review prior-year returns and client financial information to identify errors, inconsistencies, and potential tax-planning opportunities.
Provide tax planning and advisory support throughout the year, including estimated tax calculations and year-end planning.
Advise clients on potential tax strategies, deductions, write-offs, and opportunities to optimize their overall tax position.
Analyze complex tax matters involving basis, passive activity limitations, capital gains and losses, business income, investment activity, and real estate.
Prepare and review multi-state individual and business tax returns.
Assist clients with IRS and state tax notices, amended returns, examinations, and other tax authority correspondence.
Research federal and state tax issues and determine appropriate tax treatment.
Maintain accurate and organized tax workpapers and supporting documentation.
Collaborate with attorneys, financial professionals, consultants, and other advisors when client matters involve legal, estate-planning, investment, business, or strategic considerations.
Identify opportunities where additional Exemplar services or professional expertise may benefit the client.
Required Qualifications
10+ years of professional tax and client-service experience.
Significant experience working in a tax, accounting, CPA, advisory, family office, or other professional services environment.
Extensive hands-on experience preparing and filing tax returns for clients.
Demonstrated experience serving high-net-worth individuals and business owners.
Experience preparing and reviewing complex individual and business tax returns.
Strong experience with Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120-S, 1041, and related filings.
Extensive experience with partnerships, S corporations, LLCs, K-1s, trusts, investments, and pass-through entities.
Experience handling multi-state tax returns and tax issues.
Demonstrated ability to manage a significant volume of client tax filings and deadlines.
Strong understanding of federal and state tax compliance.
Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to independently identify and resolve tax issues.
Excellent client communication and relationship-management skills.
Ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly to clients and other professionals.
Strong attention to detail, organization, discretion, and professional judgment.
Proficiency with professional tax preparation software and Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation preferred.
Experience serving ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families.
Experience advising entrepreneurs, executives, investors, and closely held businesses.
Experience providing proactive tax planning and strategy.
Experience advising clients on deductions, write-offs, tax optimization, and year-end planning.
Experience with trusts, estates, gifting, and wealth-transfer matters.
Experience assisting with IRS or state examinations, notices, or tax controversy matters.
Experience working alongside tax attorneys, estate-planning attorneys, wealth advisors, or other professional advisors.
Experience in a multidisciplinary professional services environment.
Multidisciplinary Client Service
Exemplar operates as a multidisciplinary professional services organization. Our professionals work collaboratively across tax, legal, business consulting, capital, strategic advisory, wealth management, and related disciplines.
The Senior Tax Professional will be expected to understand the client's broader financial and business objectives and recognize when tax matters intersect with other areas of the client's affairs.
This may include:
Working with attorneys and other advisors on client matters.
Supporting clients with multiple businesses, investment entities, partnerships, real estate holdings, trusts, and other complex structures.
Participating in engagements involving business transactions, restructuring, acquisitions, dispositions, succession planning, and other strategic initiatives.
Identifying issues that require additional professional expertise and appropriately coordinating with the applicable advisor.
Communicating tax implications clearly to both tax and non-tax professionals.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for a seasoned client-facing tax professional, not an internal corporate accountant.
The ideal candidate has spent years working directly with clients and preparing a high volume of individual and business tax returns. They understand the complete tax picture of a high-net-worth client and can identify issues, opportunities, and questions that go beyond simply completing a return.
We value professionals who can:
Build trusted client relationships.
Take ownership of complex tax matters.
Identify tax-planning opportunities.
Communicate clearly and professionally.
Work collaboratively with attorneys and other advisors.
Manage multiple client engagements and deadlines.
Exercise sound professional judgment and discretion.
Provide responsive, high-quality client service.
Why Join Exemplar Companies?
Work directly with high-net-worth individuals, business owners, executives, and investors.
Build long-term client relationships.
Participate in tax planning and advisory work in addition to compliance.
Collaborate with professionals across multiple disciplines.
Work in a growing, entrepreneurial professional services environment.
Opportunity to contribute to a broader client advisory platform.
