Job Summary
The Physician Transformation Advisor, Medical Services (PRN) provides flexible, project-based clinical expertise and strategic guidance to advance Whitman-Walker Health’s long-term goals for clinical quality, care delivery, provider development, and value-based care. Working under the direction of the Chief Health Officer, the Physician Transformation Advisor collaborates with Medical Services and organizational leadership to identify and advance strategic priorities. The Advisor then works directly with frontline staff and providers to understand how care is delivered in practice and translate those priorities into practical, sustainable workflows, education, policies, and tools.
This is a PRN employee position scheduled according to organizational and project needs. The Physician Transformation Advisor works collaboratively across teams and provides project leadership, clinical mentorship, and subject-matter guidance without supervisory or personnel-management authority. The Advisor serves as an accessible improvement and problem-solving resource, with an emphasis on reducing unnecessary complexity and making it easier for staff and providers to deliver consistently high-quality, patient-centered care.
Core Whitman-Walker Primary Essential Duties

Maintain data integrity through conscientious use of relevant tools and employing a system of checks and balances.
Demonstrate organizational skills necessary to multi-task, meet deadlines and re-prioritize as needed.
Participate in organizational quality and performance improvement activities.
Primary Essential Duties
Clinical Quality, Operational Alignment, and Value-Based Care
Engage frontline staff and providers across departments and sites to observe workflows, understand their experience, identify pain points, and collaboratively develop practical solutions.
Assess clinical and operational processes to identify variation, inefficiencies, and systemic barriers to achieving quality and value-based performance goals.
Help streamline and align workflows across departments and clinical sites, so processes are consistent, efficient, and designed around the needs of patients and staff.
Translate evidence-based clinical standards, quality measures, and organizational priorities into clear expectations and practical clinical processes.
Leverage Epic functionality, including standardized documentation, clinical decision support, population health tools, and workflow design, to support quality and value-based care.
Provide hands-on implementation and change-management support to help teams adopt new workflows, troubleshoot problems, and refine processes based on real-world experience.
Evaluate the impact of implemented changes on quality, efficiency, and staff experience and recommend further improvements.
Provider Onboarding, Clinical Support, and Education
Review provider onboarding, clinical support, and continuing-education activities and recommend opportunities for greater consistency, coordination, and effectiveness.
Create and maintain organized, accessible reference resources describing Whitman-Walker Health’s clinical and operational processes, Epic workflows, documentation expectations, organizational resources, and standards of practice.
Develop an approach to clinical mentorship, support, and oversight for newly hired providers, with particular attention to new graduates from physician assistant and nurse practitioner programs.
Strengthen and coordinate ongoing provider education in response to organizational priorities, quality data, emerging clinical needs, identified practice variation, and provider feedback.
Redesign provider peer review to provide meaningful clinical feedback, identify opportunities for improvement, and inform future education and quality initiatives.
Support exploration of graduate medical education partnerships or program development as organizational opportunities and external partnerships evolve.
Medical Respite Program Development and Implementation
Establish an initial clinical and operational framework for safe and consistent medical respite care in conjunction with the Chief Health Officer and the Senior Director of Nursing while the Director of Clinical Respite Care and Staff Respite and Community Nurse Practitioner are recruited and hired.
Work closely with the newly hired team to develop, review, and refine clinical workflows, policies, procedures, training resources, and standards of care.
Provide physician consultation and mentorship as the team establishes admission eligibility, clinical care, escalation, care coordination, transition, and discharge processes.
Provide support and advice during program launch, helping the team troubleshoot challenges and refine the clinical model based on early implementation experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Talents Required
Strong knowledge of clinical quality measures, health care operations, and value-based care.
Knowledge of legal, regulatory, accreditation, and contractual requirements relevant to health center operations.
Strong working knowledge of electronic health records, preferably Epic, including clinical workflows, documentation, decision support, and population health tools.
Knowledge of medical billing, coding, insurance coverage, and quality measure requirements.
Ability to translate clinical standards and strategic priorities into practical workflows, education, policies, and tools.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
Ability to engage frontline staff, build trust, incorporate feedback, and lead change collaboratively without relying on formal authority.
Strong work ethic, sound judgment, adaptability, and proactive problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently while maintaining close communication and alignment with organizational leaders.
Education and Experience Required
MD or DO from an accredited school
Maintains active Board Certification in their field of expertise
Demonstrated experience in primary care, LGBTQ health, and HIV care.
At least ten years of clinical practice experience.
Demonstrated physician leadership experience in clinical quality, healthcare operations, provider education, program development, or related work.
Experience working in an FQHC or other community health setting preferred.
Working Conditions:
Working conditions for this position are normal for an office environment. Individuals may be required to work evenings and / or weekends and organization events.
Physical Demands:

Visual: Long periods on computer.
Concentration: Extended periods of engagement with computer systems where concentration is key to accuracy in data entry. Intermittent periods of engagement with a telephone system to respond to inquiries where concentration is key to task performance.
