Role Responsibilities

The Entry Level, Child Intervention Practitioner – Child Intervention Intake and Response Team (CIIRT) works in collaboration with CI Practitioners, Supervisors, and Management to support the needs of vulnerable children, youth, and families. Through mentorship, the Entry Level, Child Intervention Practitioner – CIIRT is exposed to a broad range of child intervention activities to support the day-to-day duties activities of a Child Intervention Practitioner.

The successful candidate will be involved in providing intake, safety assessment, case management and administrative support along with screening calls and analyzing information provided to assess risk of children and their families. The Entry Level CI Practitioner - CIIRT will work with children, youth and families to build social, educational, cultural, and spiritual and community connections. In addition, the successful candidate will complete casework activities, such as coordinating and/or supervising visits, driving and/or attending appointments with clients.

In this casual on-call wage opportunity, there are no guaranteed hours, and work requirements may vary per week. There is an expectation for successful candidates to provide their availability monthly to meet their minimum shift requirements.

Qualifications

• A degree or diploma in Social Work with no experience, or an equivalency as described below.    

Equivalencies:   

• Related university degree (BA Child Studies/Child & Youth Care, BA Education, Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Human Services, BA/BSc Psychology, BA Sociology, Bachelor of Community Rehab, BSc. Family Studies/Human Ecology, BA Early Child Development), Bachelor of Indigenous Studies and 1 year of related experience.  
• Or a related diploma (Addictions/Counseling, Child and Youth Care, Human Services, Criminal Justice) and 2 years of related experience. 
• Or a related certificate and 3 years of related experience.  

 
Please Note: Education must be from an accredited post-secondary institution.

Related Experience Includes:  
Case management and planning in a child intervention setting; crisis intervention and protection work; supporting foster and kinship care programs; family preservation and family support; counseling youth and families; knowledge of community connections and socially inclusive environments; as well as experience and understanding of Indigenous peoples, various cultures, community connections, and socially inclusive environments.

CI Practitioners must also demonstrate effective and concise written communication skills, using professional and inclusive vocabulary. Reports and written notes may be shared with senior leadership in the Ministry. 

Assets:  

• Completed a practicum with Children and Family Services,  
• Previous experience as a Delegated CI Practitioner under the CYFEA, or
• Experience working for a Delegated First Nation Agency (DFNA).

Notes

Hours of Work: This is a casual on-call wage opportunity, there are no guaranteed hours and work requirements may vary per week. On-call wage employees receive hourly wage, as well as $2.75 hourly evening shift differential, $3.25 hourly weekend premium, as well as $5.00 shift differential for working night shifts. Employees are expected to be available for a minimum number of 3 shifts per month. Shifts are currently up to 12 hours in length.

There will be a 90-day onboard process which will require a minimum of 8 hours on site per week for the first 3 months to complete the necessary training.

Travel and Vehicle Requirements:  Travel will be required in the Entry Level, CI Practitioner role; therefore, final candidates for this position will be asked to provide a current 5-year Commercial Driver Abstract. Employees will be required to use their own vehicles when government fleet vehicles are not available (i.e. to travel between required locations or transport children and families). Employees must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License, vehicle liability insurance, valid registration and access to a vehicle that is suitable to the requirements of this position.
