Requires a sustainability or environmental professional with experience in construction, infrastructure, or capital works. Must be proficient in data reporting tools like Power BI and familiar with sustainability frameworks such as ISC or Green Star.
Full job description
Join us on Victoria’s Big Build, delivering the Victorian Government's rail infrastructure projects. To reflect our broader remit, our organisation name has changed from Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) to VIDA Rail, providing a strong link to our overarching authority, VIDA. We're excited and proud to continue the Level Crossing Removal Project, Melbourne Airport Rail and Big Build Rail projects. There's never been a better time to get amongst the action!
About the role
The Sustainability Adviser plays a key role in supporting the delivery of VIDA Rail’s Sustainability Policy and Strategy across major infrastructure programs. Working within Engineering & Program Services, you will provide both technical and administrative support to ensure sustainability initiatives are embedded across projects.
In this role, you will:
Support the implementation of the Sustainability Policy and Strategic Plan across work packages
Provide sustainability and environmental advice to project teams and senior stakeholders
Assist projects in achieving Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) and Green Star ratings
Coordinate sustainability forums, reporting and knowledge-sharing initiatives
Manage sustainability data, reporting systems and insights using tools such as SharePoint and Power BI
Prepare reports, briefs and dashboards to track performance and drive continuous improvement
The role is a 3-year fixed term position, paying a salary between $100,894 - $114,476 plus superannuation with hybrid working arrangements (a mix of CBD office and home/remote based working).
About you
You are a motivated and detail-oriented sustainability or environmental professional who enjoys working across complex projects. You bring experience supporting sustainability initiatives within construction, infrastructure or capital works environments, and are confident working with data, reporting tools and stakeholders at all levels.
Let’s get technical – what skills do we expect you to have?
Experience supporting sustainability or environmental outcomes within infrastructure or project environments
Strong project coordination skills, with the ability to track activities and meet timelines
Knowledge of sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g. NGER, ISC, Green Star or similar)
Experience using data and reporting tools such as SharePoint, Power BI or similar platforms
Strong written and analytical skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly
Desirable: familiarity with IS ratings, Green Star ratings or similar sustainability frameworks
At VIDA Rail we embrace diversity and inclusion. We actively strive to remove barriers and encourage applications from people of any age, or disability, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders, culturally and linguistically diverse or LGBTIQA+. We will make adjustments to our recruitment process to ensure that you are able to participate to the best of your ability.
About VIDA Rail
At VIDA Rail we’re not only removing level crossings, but also removing barriers and creating a long lasting legacy for our communities.
Inclusion is a priority for us, and we are committed to creating an employee community that reflects those in which we work. We value diverse representation at all levels of the organisation.
As leaders in the transport sector, we provide secure pathways into the industry for:
Women
People who identify as LGBTQIA+
People living with a disability
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
Refugees or asylum seekers
People facing barriers to employment.
We offer and encourage flexible work and purchased leave arrangements for all employees to support wellbeing, family or carer commitments and other personal circumstances.
We also place great importance on professional development and growth through both formal training opportunities and lessons learnt.
Health, safety and wellbeing are at the heart of what we do. We aim to create a safe and healthy workplace for everyone, every day, everywhere.
What next?
To apply – just submit your CV.
No need to submit a separate address of the key selection criteria, and no need for a cover letter. Instead, we like to ask a couple of assessed questions in the application form (200 words max) to get to know you better outside of what is written on your CV.
In this instance the questions are:
Describe your experience providing sustainability or environmental advice within a project environment.
How have you used data or reporting tools (e.g. Power BI, SharePoint) to support decision-making?
Tell us about a time you worked with multiple stakeholders to achieve a sustainability outcome.
After assessing your CV and answers to the above questions, the next steps of the recruitment process might include:
a phone screen to learn more about you, and you to learn more about us
an interview to understand more about things you have worked on in the past
Please note: the successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which include national police checks and misconduct screening.
