Job Information Job Title: Senior Accommodation Planner Job Requisition ID: 84670 Ministry: Children and Family Services Location: Edmonton, AB Full or Part-Time: Full-Time Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week Permanent/Temporary/Wage: Temporary (until February 2028) Scope: Open Competition Closing Date: August 14, 2026 Classification: Program Services 4 (PS4) Salary: $3,418.20 to $4,126.82 bi-weekly ($89,215.02 - $107,710.00/year)
The Ministry of Children and Family Services funds programs and services to support vulnerable children, youth, families, and individuals to live safely and succeed in Alberta. This includes providing services and resources to protect children and youth from abuse and neglect and effectively address harm that has placed them in need of intervention. Mentoring and support services are available to youth transitioning into healthy, productive adults.
The ministry also invests in community-based groups that support prevention and early intervention services such as Family Resource Networks, youth emergency shelters as well as programs that raise awareness and help respond to family violence, sexual violence, and abuse.
Shape the spaces where public service happens. As a Senior Accommodation Planner, you’ll lead the design and delivery of workplace and capital projects that directly support critical ministry programs across Alberta. Blending strategic planning, stakeholder collaboration, and infrastructure expertise, you’ll ensure that complex accommodation needs are translated into functional, secure, and future-ready work environments that enable impactful service delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead Stakeholder Consultation and Accommodation Planning: Engage with internal clients and external partners to assess accommodation needs, provide strategic advice, and develop space planning solutions aligned with program objectives and ministry business plans. Facilitate meetings, site visits, and ongoing collaboration to resolve issues and ensure effective program delivery environments.
Develop and Implement Accommodation Solutions: Design and deliver innovative, cost-effective accommodation strategies that optimize the use of government-owned and leased space. Negotiate and mediate between stakeholders to achieve consensus on solutions that balance operational needs, standards, and budget constraints.
Manage Project Planning, Budgeting, and Cost Analysis: Define project scope, develop cost estimates, and conduct financial analysis to support accommodation requests. Coordinate budgeting activities, identify funding sources, and ensure projects are delivered within approved financial and operational parameters.
Oversee Project Execution and Delivery: Initiate and guide accommodation projects from concept to completion by preparing project documentation, coordinating with Infrastructure and vendors, and ensuring adherence to ministry guidelines, timelines, and quality standards. Address emerging issues and adjust project scope as required. Support Policy, Standards, and Capital Planning: Contribute to the development of accommodation policies, design guidelines, and furniture standards. Support capital planning activities, including business case development, accommodation studies, and ongoing coordination with capital planners to align projects with long-term ministry needs. This role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team to deliver projects within tight timelines.

Thorough understanding of government structure, departmental processes, procurement policies, standards, and procedures, including knowledge of Ministry program initiatives, legislative requirements, and political dynamics impacting accommodation projects.
Experience in front-end project planning, small project management, budgeting, and analytical decision-making, with the ability to monitor performance and deliver accommodation solutions within scope, budget, and timelines.
Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to build relationships with stakeholders across multiple levels, resolve conflicts, and facilitate collaboration with internal teams, external agencies, and contractors.
