Purpose:
Zachry Common Labs invites applications for a full-time Laboratory Coordinator I/II.
Under general supervision, the Laboratory Coordinator I/II serves as an essential operational and administrative partner to the Senior Laboratory Coordinator (SLC) within Zachry Common Labs. In this role, the candidate assists with daily, multi-floor laboratory logistics and oversight of lab operations under the direction of the Senior Laboratory Coordinator. The incumbent is responsible for providing strategic support and managing institutional documentation.
The successful candidate will apply standard engineering and scientific techniques to support the teaching, research, and Service Center operations of Zachry Common Labs. The Laboratory Coordinator functions as part of a collaborative team; the specific focus of your role will complement the existing group expertise.
What we need:
We are actively recruiting for a level I or II Laboratory Coordinator.
Minimum qualifications for a Laboratory Coordinator I:
Bachelor’s degree plus 1 year of experience in a related field or any equivalent combination
of education and experience. (High School diploma with 5 years of related experience or
associate’s degree with 3 years of related experience)
Minimum qualifications for a Laboratory Coordinator II:
Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of experience in a related field or any equivalent
combination of education and experience. (High School diploma with 6 years of related
experience or associate’s degree with 4 years of related experience)
The well-qualified candidates would possess the following:
Experience maintaining equipment to satisfy seasonal demand.
Experience Coordinating with vendors for repair and maintenance.
Experience training student workers and staff.
Experience enforcing PPE rules.
Experience in daily lab management.
Experience ordering and maintaining appropriate inventory of supplies.
Experience staying current on latest technology and equipment.
Experience advising on future purchases/technologies for the labs.
Experience documenting SOPs and training manuals for equipment.
Experience assisting with longer-term lab organizational efforts.
Experience working with diverse groups of customers.
Experience with maintaining reference materials, SDS, calibration, safety data forms.
Experience with supporting research.
Experience with leading staff in relation to development, planning, training and support of facility users.
Other Requirements:
May be required to work evenings, and some weekends as needed.
Must comply with lab safety PPE requirements.

The Zachry Common Labs support more than 60 College of Engineering undergraduate academic lab courses across multiple departments. The Zachry Common Labs span three floors and provide engineering students with access to state-of-the-art equipment for a hands-on experience. Students also benefit from lab and equipment safety standards and personal protective equipment trainings, consultations with professional staff, and testing opportunities for senior design and capstone teams. The Zachry Common Labs service center infrastructure allows faculty to access testing equipment to assist in their research.
