Position Overview

This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and developing assigned program(s) and projects that align with the mission of the College of Business and are in compliance with University and funding guidelines and regulations. The position ensures the quality of all activities associated with assigned programs, including adapting to changes at the state and federal levels. The position has responsibility for the quality of all activities as well as fiscal oversight, including seeking external funding and developing contracts that ensure the financial viability of programs.

The Director of the Professional Leadership Program provides strategic, academic, operational, and fiscal leadership for the G. Brint Ryan College of Business Professional Leadership Program. The Director develops and delivers leadership and professional-development programming that prepares students for successful careers through academic instruction, experiential learning, mentoring, industry engagement, and community service.

The position serves as instructor of record for assigned undergraduate leadership or professional-development courses and is responsible for curriculum development, course administration, student assessment, grading, and compliance with university academic policies. The Director oversees program staff, student leaders, budgets, scholarships, events, mentor relationships, corporate partnerships, fundraising activities, alumni engagement, and program assessment.

The Director works closely with students, faculty, staff, alumni, the PLP Board of Directors, industry mentors, corporate sponsors, donors, and community partners to advance the program’s mission and ensure its long-term effectiveness and financial sustainability.

Some travel within the Dallas-Fort Worth area is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in related field and six years of closely related professional experience or any combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills. Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with populations. Extensive knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations related to assigned area.

Thorough knowledge of leadership development, servant leadership, experiential learning, mentoring, curriculum development, instructional methods, student assessment, and academic policy. Ability to teach undergraduate courses and engage students from varied disciplines and backgrounds. Strong strategic planning, program management, organizational, supervisory, communication, and relationship-building skills. Ability to manage multiple programs, courses, events, partnerships, budgets, scholarships, sponsorships, contracts, and deadlines. Knowledge of corporate culture, workforce readiness, and current professional development practices. Ability to analyze assessment data, improve program outcomes, exercise sound judgment, and represent the College and University professionally. Working knowledge of customer relationship management, donor management, learning management, and student engagement systems.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with populations. Extensive knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations related to the assigned area. Experience and knowledge of higher education, leadership development theories, and how they are developed in students. Prior exposure to and experience with leading the Professional Leadership Program. Preference given to internal candidates.

The preferred candidate will hold a master’s degree or doctorate in a related field and have at least three years of experience in college-level teaching, corporate training, leadership facilitation, or curriculum delivery. Preferred experience includes serving as instructor of record, developing curriculum and assessments, leading leadership or workforce-readiness programs, supervising staff or student leaders, managing budgets and external funding, building corporate and community partnerships, using relevant learning and constituent-management systems, and applying assessment data to improve program outcomes. Knowledge of the Professional Leadership Program or a similar servant leadership and mentoring program is also preferred.

Job Duties

• Academic Instruction and Curriculum Leadership: Serve as instructor of record for assigned undergraduate leadership or professional development courses. Develop and maintain syllabi, learning outcomes, instructional materials, assignments, rubrics, assessments, and grading standards. Deliver instruction, coordinate guest speakers, evaluate student performance, assign grades, and maintain academic records. Ensure compliance with university, College, department, accreditation, accessibility, and academic integrity requirements. Continuously improve PLP curriculum and incorporate case studies, networking, presentations, mock interviews, community service, and industry engagement.
• Program Strategy, Administration and Assessment: Set program priorities, performance measures, and operating plans. Direct the planning, implementation, assessment, and improvement of PLP programs, courses, events, and services. Evaluate student learning, retention, participation, mentor engagement, and program outcomes. Prepare reports and recommendations for college leadership and stakeholders. Ensure compliance with university policies, funding requirements, contracts, and regulations. Maintain program records, procedures, calendars, and systems.
• Student Recruitment, Development and Engagement: Direct student recruitment, selection, onboarding, retention, and recognition. Advise and support students in leadership development, professional conduct, mentoring, academic participation, and career readiness. Oversee student leaders, scholarships, awards, community service, and recognition programs. Address student concerns and performance issues in accordance with program and university expectations. 
• Mentor, Corporate and Community Partnerships: Recruit, orient, match, support, and retain volunteer mentors. Monitor mentor and mentee engagement and resolve concerns. Build relationships with corporations, nonprofit and public-sector organizations, community partners, and industry professionals. Recruit guest speakers, case study partners, event hosts, mock interviewers, mentors, and other experts. Represent PLP and the College at external events. 
• Development, Sponsorships and Alumni Engagement: Partner with College development staff to cultivate sponsors, donors, scholarship supporters, and in-kind contributors. Develop sponsorship proposals, funding requests, and stewardship reports. Oversee scholarship selection and alumni engagement. Maintain accurate donor, alumni, mentor, and partner records and track constituent activity, proposals, sponsorships, and commitments. 
• Personnel and Operational Management: Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff, student employees, interns, and volunteers. Assign work, set expectations, monitor workloads, approve schedules and leave, and address personnel matters. Manage budgets, contracts, purchasing, travel, events, scholarships, and program resources. Oversee logistics for classes, workshops, networking programs, banquets, corporate visits, and board meetings. 
• Board, College and University Service: Serve as primary liaison to the PLP Board of Directors and coordinate board activities. Collaborate with College departments, faculty, student services, career services, advancement, alumni relations, and university partners. Serve on committees and perform related duties that support PLP and institutional priorities.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, with regular evening responsibilities and occasional weekend work required to support classes, mentoring activities, networking programs, board meetings, student events, corporate engagements, and community activities.
