POSITION SUMMARY: The Republic Services Cybersecurity Team is committed to secure and protect Republic Services’ information anywhere, on any device, and at all times. We are seeking the brightest and most enthusiastic cybersecurity professionals to partner with in protecting Republic Services data and building out a culture of security. The Senior Data Protection Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing enterprise security solutions. The Senior Data Protection Engineer will help lead the greater mission of the team and will architect, design, and support technology solutions towards the protection of sensitive data. This will be done by leveraging tools such as Endpoint Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), database monitoring and encryption methodologies (at rest, in transit, masking etc.) and other tools. This engineer will play a key role as the Sensitive Data Management program evolves and stays aligned with the changing business and technological landscape as well as industry evolutions and trends.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Designs and implements enterprise security solutions.

• Functions as the Data Protection Technical Lead / SME for enterprise security.

• Mentors DLP analysts on data protection controls, technologies, best practices, and techniques.

• Collaborates with the Senior Manager of Data Protection to define and implement processes and technologies to enable delivery of the roadmap initiatives.

• Leads the development of processes and tool alignment for data at rest initiatives.

• Aids in educating data subject matter experts and key business technology and application leaders on data identification, secure handling, storage, and transfer of sensitive data.

• Manages DLP policies and configuration of technical tools per process requirements.

• Drafts configuration manuals, operating procedures, reports, and system hardening guidelines.

• Performs Level 3 / Level 4 incident response/support to triage security events/incidents, identify root cause, determine next steps, and drive incident resolution.

• Provides guidance in the application and reporting of data protection technology performance metrics.

• Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

• Advanced level of knowledge with Data Protection technologies (CASB, proxy, network DLP, endpoint DLP, data discovery, key management, tokenization, encryption, etc.); seen as the 'go to' to person for the toughest technical or leadership challenges.

• Demonstrated Information Security understanding and specifically industry best practices for the development of a Data Protection program.

• Ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders (i.e., CISO), technical team members and non-technical stakeholders.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Proven expertise in developing and implementing strategic initiatives, complemented by a strong capability for tactical execution and problem-solving.

• Proven track record of fostering trust, transparency, and flexibility within a team environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 7-10+ years of related industry experience such as in Cybersecurity and/or Information Technology.

• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, GSEC, Security+ or similar are highly desirable.

• Familiarity with NIST Cybersecurity Framework (v2.0), Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, California Consumer Privacy Act, and other pertinent data protection regulations and standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in Data Loss Prevention or Security Engineer roles

• Prior experience implementing and operating at least three of the following: DLP (e.g., endpoint, network), CASB, Data Classification, Data Encryption.

Pay range: $120,400-165,500 DOE.

The Republic Services Polymer Center is the nation’s first integrated plastics recycling facility. These innovative sites process rigid plastics from our recycling centers, producing recycled materials that promote true bottle-to-bottle circularity. We also formed Blue Polymers, a joint venture with Ravago, to develop facilities that will further process plastic material from our Polymer Centers to help meet the growing demand for sustainable packaging. We are building a network of Polymer Centers and Blue Polymer facilities across North America.

Our customers are increasingly looking for decarbonization solutions, and we are leveraging our network of landfills to meet that need. Republic is committed to harnessing landfill gas, a natural byproduct of decomposing waste, and converting it to energy. Republic has partnered with renewable gas developers to construct Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) plants at our landfills, expanding beyond the 77 projects we currently have to make progress towards our goal to beneficially reuse 50% more biogas by 2030 (2017 baseline year).
