What we need
We're looking for a Solution Architect to help shape the digital nervous system of healthcare at BCBSMA.
Our Integration & Interoperability team connects applications, data, healthcare partners, cloud platforms, and emerging AI capabilities through APIs, events, and interoperability services. In this role, you will design and govern enterprise integration solutions, define modern architecture patterns, and help build the foundation for the next generation of digital and AI-enabled healthcare experiences.
You will partner closely with engineering, product, security, and enterprise architecture teams to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient solutions across the organization. This position plays a key role in modernizing healthcare connectivity and enabling innovation at enterprise scale.
This role is eligible for our Flex Persona. For candidates local to our Boston, MA and Hingham MA offices.
Your Day to Day
Lead architecture and design activities for enterprise integration, API, event-driven, and interoperability initiatives. Define and govern architecture patterns, standards, and best practices across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments. Partner with delivery teams to review solution designs, provide technical guidance, and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture principles. Evaluate emerging technologies and conduct proof-of-concepts to support innovation in integration, interoperability, automation, and AI-enabled capabilities. Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into scalable technology solutions. This document is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, duties, requirements, or working conditions associated with the job. Employees may be required to perform other job-related duties.
We’re Looking for:
Experience designing enterprise-scale integration and API architectures.
Strong knowledge of REST APIs, event-driven architecture, messaging, and distributed systems.
Experience with API security standards including OAuth, SAML, and mTLS.
Experience with API management platforms such as Apigee, AWS API Gateway, or equivalent technologies.
Experience with cloud-native platforms and container technologies such as Kubernetes, VMware Tanzu, OpenShift, or AWS EKS.
Knowledge of healthcare domains such as Claims, Enrollment, Eligibility, Referrals, Prior Authorization, or Interoperability.
AWS, cloud, architecture, or Agile certifications are a plus.
What You Bring:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
8+ years of experience in software engineering, integration, or solution architecture roles.
3+ years leading architecture discussions, solution reviews, and enterprise technology decisions.
Strong background with Java, Spring Boot, microservices, APIs, cloud technologies, and integration platforms.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Curiosity, innovation, and a passion for solving complex business and technology challenges.
What You’ll Gain:
The opportunity to influence the architecture strategy for one of the largest healthcare organizations in New England.
Exposure to modern API platforms, cloud-native architectures, event streaming, interoperability standards, and emerging AI integration patterns.
A highly visible role that partners with senior technology and business leaders across the enterprise.
The ability to shape the foundational capabilities that power digital experiences, healthcare transactions, provider connectivity, and future AI-enabled solutions.
Competitive compensation, comprehensive health and wellness benefits, retirement programs, paid time off, and flexible work arrangements.
