Our turnkey service capabilities provide our customers with efficiency, consistency, attention to detail and safe execution. About this Role
Title: Designer - Structural
Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group (QISG) is a rapidly growing interdisciplinary engineering company within the Quanta Services (Quanta) family of companies. Quanta Services ranks #1 on the ENR 2024 Top 600 Specialty Contractors list, designing and building some of the largest infrastructure projects in North America. QISG is seeking professionals interested in working to support large-scale engineering and construction projects throughout North America by providing structural design solutions to our construction partners and clients.
About this Role
A Structural Designer within QISG is involved in a variety of engineering projects with a focus on structural design aspects of energy related infrastructure and design-build delivery methods for large-scale energy generation, transmission, and substation-related projects. Collaborating with an in-house, multi-disciplinary engineering and construction team — including civil, structural, geotechnical, construction management, and construction experts — the Structural Designer within QISG plays a crucial role in providing structural design solutions; responsibilities include supporting design production, contributing to the development of construction drawings and specifications, and engineering support during construction.
This role provides hands-on development of deliverables and performs routine and unique structural and foundation design assignments, which requires knowledge and skill in design techniques and procedures applicable to structural steel, reinforced concrete, and other construction material types. Thorough knowledge of design standards, material, and CAD software is required. A successful candidate is able to utilize sound judgement, information collected by themselves or others, and digital technologies to develop economical solutions to support civil/structural construction and communicate effectively with project management and technical personnel.
What You'll Do
Develop and maintain 2D & 3D models of structural framing and reinforced concrete using various CAD software.
Produce detailed design drawings including overall plans, enlarged plans, sections, elevations and details, as well as 3D models developed in collaboration with engineers from conceptual sketches, specifications and engineering calculations while following QISG or client specific standards.
Work on structural and foundation design aspects from project inception to completion on various infrastructure projects.
Interface closely with and support project teams with the ability to learn new software and develop new deliverables for varying structural project scopes.
Communicate across multiple teams and disciplines to prevent design conflicts throughout a project lifecycle.
Assist engineers in the review of structural steel fabrication drawings and reinforced concrete drawings to verify compliance with design intent and project specifications.
Research information in catalogs, specifications, corporate standards, or other reference material.
Demonstrate knowledge of quality control procedures to ensure the highest standards of workmanship.
Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of their work.
Learn and apply corporate standard engineering practices.
Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party.
Perform occasional travel associated with project, assignment, and company responsibilities.
Work under supervision of Lead Designer or Engineering Manager in a professional office setting.
What You'll Bring
Minimum of 5 years experience in drafting disciplines with a background in civil/structural, substation, or transmission design
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the electric/power utility industry performing detailed CAD/design
Strong background in structural steel and reinforced concrete detailing as well as bill of material creation
Basic knowledge of ASTM, AISC and ACI standards
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
Ability to work with moderate supervision and maximum efficiency in a small or medium-sized office setting
Experience with Vault, Advance Steel, Inventor, and REVIT preferred
Familiarity with the major electrical and structural components of a substation and the drawings required to construct one preferred
What You'll Get

401(k) Retirement Plan
Holiday Pay
Paid Time Off (PTO)
Comprehensive Health Coverage
Pet Insurance
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Professional Development
