Full job description
About the Team
Like every team at OpenAI, the Marketing team contributes to our broader mission of ensuring that artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity. We develop and execute strategies that build understanding of OpenAI, deepen engagement with our key audiences, and communicate why we build, how our technology is creating value, and how we approach its broader societal impact.
We work closely with Global Affairs, Communications, Creative, Research, Product, and other teams to translate complex topics into clear, relevant, and compelling stories. Our work spans national campaigns and locally tailored efforts, helping people understand both the opportunities created by AI and the important issues surrounding its development and adoption.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Integrated Marketing Lead to lead policy- and reputation-focused campaigns that strengthen the OpenAI brand nationally and within local communities.
This person will spearhead integrated campaigns and corporate communications initiatives that help people understand why OpenAI builds, the impact of our technology, and how we are engaging with some of the most consequential issues surrounding AI—including infrastructure and data centers, jobs and economic opportunity, and youth safety.
The role combines national paid media with locally relevant marketing and engagement efforts. The ideal candidate understands policy, public affairs, and civic audiences while also being a sophisticated brand marketer who can make complex subjects accessible and meaningful to a broader public.
This person will bring strategic vision, sound judgment, organizational clarity, and exceptional execution to highly visible work. They will collaborate closely with Global Affairs, Communications, Creative, Research, and external agency partners to build trust and shape understanding of OpenAI at both the national and local levels.
In this role, you will:
Lead policy and brand campaign strategy: Develop integrated marketing strategies that communicate why OpenAI builds, demonstrate the real-world impact of our technology, and address important policy and societal issues.
Build national and local campaigns: Lead a mix of national paid-media campaigns and locally tailored efforts that reach policymakers, civic and community leaders, influential stakeholders, and the broader public.
Translate complex issues into compelling stories: Turn nuanced topics—including AI infrastructure, data centers, jobs, economic opportunity, and youth safety—into clear, credible, and engaging narratives for diverse audiences.
Own campaigns from strategy through measurement: Manage the full campaign lifecycle, including audience insights, briefs, creative development, media strategy, stakeholder alignment, execution, launch, optimization, and post-campaign analysis.
Connect policy expertise with brand building: Ensure policy-focused communications strengthen the broader OpenAI brand, create greater understanding of our mission, and build long-term trust.
Champion creative excellence: Partner with internal creative teams and external agencies to develop distinctive, culturally relevant work while maintaining accuracy and sound judgment on sensitive topics.
Drive cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Global Affairs, Communications, Creative, Research, Product, and other partners to align priorities, navigate complex issues, and bring campaigns to market effectively.
Develop audience and market insight: Build a deep understanding of policy, civic, and local audiences and use research, data, and cultural insight to determine the most effective messages, channels, and messengers.
Measure and improve impact: Establish clear campaign objectives and measurement plans, using results and audience feedback to continuously strengthen our strategy and execution.
You will thrive in this role if you have:
Relevant experience: 12+ years of experience in integrated marketing, brand marketing, corporate reputation, public affairs, policy communications, or advertising, including significant experience leading complex, high-profile campaigns.
Policy audience expertise: A strong understanding of policymakers, civic leaders, advocacy organizations, community stakeholders, and other audiences that influence public understanding and policy conversations.
Brand-building experience: A demonstrated ability to translate complex or technical subjects into accessible stories that strengthen reputation, build trust, and connect a brand with a broad public audience.
National and local campaign experience: Proven success developing national campaigns as well as locally tailored marketing or public-affairs efforts informed by regional and community context.
Paid-media expertise: Experience leading substantial paid-media campaigns across channels such as television, digital video, social, print, audio, out-of-home, and local media.
Integrated campaign leadership: Proven success managing campaigns across paid, owned, earned, experiential, and community channels, with strong strategic and project-management skills.
Exceptional judgment: The ability to navigate sensitive, fast-moving, and highly visible issues with care, accuracy, and an understanding of reputational and policy considerations.
Communication and influence: Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and influence decisions at the executive level.
Cross-functional leadership: A track record of bringing together teams with different perspectives and areas of expertise to deliver against a shared objective.
Agility and adaptability: Comfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment and adjusting strategies in response to new developments, audience insights, and external dynamics.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience developing campaigns related to technology policy, corporate reputation, economic impact, infrastructure, workforce issues, online or youth safety, or other complex societal topics.
Experience partnering closely with public policy, government affairs, corporate communications, research, and community-engagement teams.
Experience managing creative and media agencies and substantial campaign budgets.
A passion for storytelling and for making complex ideas understandable, relevant, and human.
A test-and-learn mindset grounded in research, measurement, and continuous improvement.
Familiarity with artificial intelligence, emerging technology, and the evolving public conversation surrounding their impact.
Workplace & Location

Optional locations: Washington DC or New York. If you're in either of these locations, you will need to travel to SF on a frequent basis.
