The Social Media Producer will create, shoot, and edit social-first content across platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube to grow IndieWire's brand presence. They will also manage day-to-day publishing, optimize content for discoverability, and provide real-time coverage of major film festivals and industry events.
Requirements
Candidates must have at least 3 years of experience in social media and video content creation for entertainment or media brands. Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and a deep knowledge of film, television, and entertainment culture are essential.
Full job description
IndieWire is seeking a highly creative, fast-moving Social Media Producer to help define and grow how one of the entertainment industry’s most influential film and television brands shows up across social platforms.
This is a hands-on social and video role that blends creativity, editorial judgment and strategy. From breaking film and television news and awards season to Sundance, Cannes, TIFF, premieres, filmmaker interviews and IndieWire original video, this producer will translate IndieWire’s distinctive editorial voice into compelling, social-first storytelling.
The ideal candidate is deeply knowledgeable about film, television and entertainment culture and understands what makes IndieWire different. This person should be equally comfortable filming an interview on an iPhone, pulling a standout moment from a longer conversation, creating an Instagram carousel, cutting a TikTok from a film festival and writing a sharp caption around breaking industry news.
You will work closely with IndieWire’s editorial, video, Studio and social teams across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, Threads, X and emerging platforms.
As PMC values in-person collaboration and team cohesion, employees work onsite four days a week and remotely one day a week. This position is based in Los Angeles.
What You’ll Do
Create, shoot, edit and publish social-first content including Reels, TikToks, YouTube Shorts, carousels, graphics and videos, translating IndieWire articles, interviews, reviews, rankings, breaking news and original video into compelling social storytelling
Own day-to-day publishing and platform optimization across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Threads and X, including captions, headlines, thumbnails, metadata and publishing calendars
Produce real-time social coverage from festivals, awards shows, premieres and industry events, including Sundance, Cannes and TIFF, capturing interviews, behind-the-scenes access and timely moments for rapid turnaround
Shoot and edit polished social video using iPhones and other production tools, with a strong understanding of framing, lighting and audio, and create fast-turn edits in Adobe Premiere Pro and other social editing platforms
Partner with IndieWire editors and video teams to identify the strongest social opportunities from breaking news, interviews, reviews, rankings, awards coverage, original franchises and IndieWire’s video archive
Help grow IndieWire’s YouTube and YouTube Shorts presence, identifying strong cutdowns and optimizing titles, thumbnails, descriptions and programming for discoverability, watch time and audience growth
Develop original and recurring social formats that showcase filmmakers, actors, craftspeople and the creative process while strengthening IndieWire’s distinct social identity
Use analytics and audience insights to inform strategy, test new formats and creative approaches, and support sponsored campaigns and branded content when needed
Who You Are
At least 3+ years of experience creating social media and video content for an entertainment, media, publishing, film or news brand
Deeply knowledgeable and passionate about film, television, filmmakers, awards season and entertainment culture, with a strong understanding of IndieWire’s audience and editorial point of view
A social media native with strong knowledge of Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and other major social platforms
A strong writer and visual storyteller who can create sharp captions, headlines and hooks and recognize the social moment within a larger story, interview or event
Comfortable shooting high-quality content on an iPhone and editing and publishing quickly in real-time environments
Strong editorial judgment and comfortable working with filmmakers, actors, publicists and other entertainment industry professionals
Highly organized and able to manage multiple platforms, shoots, deadlines and deliverables in a fast-moving environment
Collaborative, resourceful and willing to travel for festivals, awards shows, events and special productions as needed
Preferred Skills and Experience
Experience working for a film, television, entertainment or culture publication
Experience covering major film festivals, particularly Sundance, Cannes and TIFF
Experience producing filmmaker, actor and entertainment industry interview content
Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro; After Effects, CapCut, Photoshop or Canva experience is a plus
Experience creating high-performing short-form video and Instagram carousels
Experience growing YouTube, YouTube Shorts and other social audiences
Familiarity with YouTube Studio, Instagram Insights, social analytics, SEO and audience development
A portfolio demonstrating strong social video, editorial storytelling, event coverage and creative social content
