Putting people first, every day
BDO is a firm built on a foundation of positive relationships with our people and our clients. Each day, our professionals provide exceptional service, helping clients with advice and insight they can trust. In turn, we offer an award-winning environment that fosters a people-first culture with a high priority on your personal and professional growth.
Your Opportunity
Our Markham office is looking for a Senior Accountant to join the Assurance team in our China Practice. This is a replacement role and in this role, you will leverage your assurance expertise and Mandarin language skills to support Chinese-owned and China-based businesses operating in Canada and expanding globally. Our bilingual professionals help clients navigate complex accounting frameworks and regulatory requirements while bridging cultural and language differences. With a focus on audit and review engagements under ASPE and IFRS, you’ll gain exposure to private enterprises, entrepreneurial clients, and subsidiaries of global organizations, while contributing to their successful cross-border growth. In this role you will own the following responsibilities:
Lead and conduct audit and review engagements under ASPE and IFRS, preparing working papers and financial statements in line with firm and regulatory standards.
Plan and execute engagements across industries such as consumer business, manufacturing, and technology, coordinating closely with engagement teams.
Build trusted client relationships in both Mandarin and English, serving as the key contact throughout the engagement.
Supervise and review the work of juniors and intermediates, providing coaching and guidance to ensure high-quality deliverables.
Collaborate with Partners on proposals, presentations, and client pitches to support China Practice growth.
Communicate proactively with teams to ensure efficient, high-quality service delivery.
How do we define success for your role?
You demonstrate BDO's core values through all aspect of your work: Integrity, Respect and Collaboration
You understand your client’s industry, challenges, and opportunities; clients describe you as positive, professional, and delivering high-quality work
You identify, recommend, and are focused on effective service delivery to your clients
You share in an inclusive and engaging work environment that develops, retains & attracts talent
You actively participate in the adoption of digital tools and strategies to drive an innovative workplace
You grow your expertise through learning and professional development.
Why join us?
Work with a collaborative team focused on growth in the China Practice and the Canadian market.
Build meaningful client relationships and complex engagements with real business impact.
Strong path to expanded responsibility and career progression.
What makes BDO different?
Mid-market focus, real client access: Work directly with decision-makers (owners, CFOs, and boards) helping shape engagement strategy, deliver practical advice, and identify growth opportunities.
Global reach for cross-border needs: Access to international resources and cross-border support for clients operating across Canada and overseas.
Lower partner-to-staff ratio: Work closely with Partners and Mangers —faster decisions, stronger engagement support, and more coaching.
Your experience and education
You have completed your CPA designation (or international equivalent, CPA Ontario-eligible).
You bring minimum 3 years of external audit/assurance experience in public accounting, with strong knowledge of ASPE and IFRS.
You have experience in executing engagements from planning through completion, supervising staff, and reviewing deliverables.
You are fluent in Mandarin and English (verbal and written).
