Requires 4-6 years of shipyard welding experience and specific certifications in SMAW and FCAW carbon steel plate. Candidates must be able to pass drug and work ability screenings and obtain government security clearances.
Summary
Welders are responsible for performing welds in multiple positions using a variety of processes in accordance with NAVSEA-approved procedures, in a safe and efficient manner. Responsibilities include operating, maintaining and troubleshooting welding and cutting equipment, preparing components through precise layout and fitting, and conducting quality inspections. 1st Class Mechanics are expected to independently receive assignments, plan the work, identify material requirements, and execute tasks efficiently and accurately.
