About Us
Play On Philly (POP) is a leading nonprofit organization that provides transformative music instruction to K-12 students in communities with limited access to formal music education. Through our work, we help children and youth in Philadelphia aspire to academic and social success, realize their full potential for growth, and become instruments of change in their communities. As we approach the end of our 15th year, we are expanding our impact through multiple sites, vibrant partnerships, and a host of public performance opportunities throughout the region.
We don’t just teach music: We transform lives!
The POP team is a deeply committed and collaborative team, working in close partnership to advance the organization’s mission. Many team members have been with POP for 10 years or more—a testament to the strength of the organizational culture and the talented, thoughtful leadership that has fostered both loyalty and professional growth.

Commitment to Inclusive Hiring
POP is committed to being a diverse and inclusive workplace and is actively trying to attract a wide pool of candidates. Discrimination against race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, age, disability or genetic information is both illegal and against our organization’s values. POP is working to understand who is applying to our open positions. Your responses will help us to evaluate and improve our current practices. If you feel comfortable volunteering your demographic details strictly for informational purposes, you will be invited to respond to the optional section in the job application.
Our community
POP is rooted in the community of Philadelphia. We welcome all applicants and invite our local community members to apply. We want to hear from you!
Play On Philly (POP) cultivates emotional, cognitive, and behavioral skills necessary for life by providing high quality music education to underserved children in Philadelphia. We believe that intensive music education is a vehicle to develop life-long academic and social skills. Many Philadelphia students do not have access to music education.
Our mission is to provide tuition-free, intensive after-school music education to students who would not otherwise have access. POP does not ask students to audition, nor are they required to have any previous musical experience. Each of our students from K-12th grade are loaned at no cost one of fourteen instruments such as a harp, flute, clarinet, cello, and violin. Students will each receive approximately 500 hours of training and performance opportunities during the year. Because many of our students enter POP programming as many as 3 grade levels behind, a creative all-day summer camp is offered in July, in addition to school-year lessons, to protect the positive advancements they’ve gained through POP and prepare them for a successful return to school in the fall.
Instruction is delivered by a talented corps of professional musicians and educators who realize their gifts can be a powerful force of change in the most vulnerable and marginalized populations throughout Philadelphia. The organization is led by a committed group of professionals and governed by a passionate Board of Directors who are eager to see the growth and sustainability of POP.
