Overview
Nakupuna Companies is seeking a full-time Mid-Level Industrial Security Specialist to join our team of talented consultants supporting the Department of War. The position provides security analysis, program support, administrative coordination, and customer service across a range of security functions. The ideal candidate has experience interpreting Federal and Department of War (DoW) security policy, managing high-volume security actions, maintaining accurate records and data, and preparing clear reports and briefings for Government stakeholders.
Responsibilities
The following reflects management’s definition of the essential functions for this position but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Management may assign additional duties and responsibilities at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other business needs.
Collaborate with Government program leads to plan, track, and document security projects and deliverables supporting agency goals.
Contribute to project plans, monthly status reports, quarterly In Progress Reviews, performance metrics, and executive-level updates addressing project status, staffing, risks, issues, and recommended actions.
Analyze DoW security policies and internal procedures to assess compliance, interpret requirements, identify potential impacts, and recommend process or performance improvements.
Research security-related issues through policy reviews, examination of existing records, and database queries; prepare recommendations, policy interpretations, reports, presentations, and other supporting documentation.
Support a high-volume customer service environment handling approximately 1,400 security requests per month across the team, including SIPRNet token, facility access, badge, and Visit Access Request actions; maintain customer communication and track requests through completion.
Manage and monitor shared security mailbox traffic and compile weekly, end-of-month, and monthly metrics covering request volume, action type, status, completion time, trends, and other performance indicators.
Support the security portions of personnel in-processing and out-processing, including transaction tracking and entries in the Defense Information System for Security (DISS) or a successor system.
Assist Government-led inquiries into potential security incidents by coordinating interviews, preparing reports, maintaining documentation, and tracking actions from initiation through closure.
Maintain accurate information in security-related systems, including access-control databases, DISS, security rosters, eligibility and access records, Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) records, and accreditation documentation.
Prepare analyses and briefings for Government program leads, senior management, stakeholders, and executive leadership concerning security program performance, compliance, risks, and emerging issues.
Support records management, Mission Assurance, Continuity of Operations site relocation, and related activities, including compliance with applicable DoW, General Services Administration, and National Archives and Records Administration requirements.
Support security programs such as Operations Security and Controlled Unclassified Information by coordinating meetings, agendas, minutes, presentations, training sessions, focus groups, research activities, and governance documentation.
Assist with implementing and maintaining security procedures, checklists, process controls, document-handling practices, and records-destruction activities as directed by Government program leads.
Support the annual Information Security Assistance Visit self-inspection program, including scheduling, site visits, improvement recommendations, reports, metrics, trend analyses, and senior-leadership briefing materials for an estimated 20 to 30 visits annually.
Support security education and awareness activities by updating the Learning Management System and training requirements, preparing and delivering approximately five to 10 courses annually, and reporting training compliance.
Prepare country-specific risk assessments and foreign travel briefings in support of approximately 400 overseas travelers annually.
Support SCI and collateral facility requirements for an inventory of more than 100 secure facilities, including accreditation documentation, physical security inspections, vulnerability identification, mitigation recommendations, and customer assistance in achieving DoW compliance.
Qualifications
Skills/Qualifications: The ideal candidate is an analytical, detail-oriented security professional who can effectively support multiple security functions in a fast-paced Government environment. Specifically, the candidate will demonstrate the following:
Experience with DISS, computerized access-control systems, Learning Management Systems, SIPRNet, or other security databases and tools is preferred but not required.
Working knowledge of Federal and DoW security policies, procedures, and compliance requirements across one or more security disciplines.
Demonstrated ability to research and interpret policy, evaluate compliance, identify process gaps, and develop practical recommendations.
Experience managing high-volume transactions, shared mailboxes, customer requests, trackers, and competing deadlines with accuracy and responsiveness.
Strong analytical and data-management skills, including the ability to compile metrics, conduct trend analysis, and translate findings into clear reports and presentations.
Excellent written, verbal, briefing, proofreading, and client-facing communication skills, including experience interacting with Government leaders and stakeholders.
Sound judgment, discretion, attention to detail, and the ability to appropriately handle sensitive security information.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of an integrated Government-contractor team.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
Three years of relevant experience in security analysis, security program support, or a related field, preferably supporting DoW or another Federal agency.
Clearance: This position requires an active TOP SECRET/SCI security clearance. Must be a U.S. citizen.
Location: This is a full-time, on-site position. Work is performed primarily at the Mark Center, and other Government sites to include the Pentagon, Crystal City, and other Government-owned or leased facilities within the National Capital Region.
