Full job description
Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.
We are more than 34,000 people, in over 30 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world’s most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.
Role description:
Arcadis is currently seeking a Discipline Lead, Transportation Structures to join our Mobility Global Business Area (GBA) in Western Canada. This leadership role is responsible for leading our structures discipline, guiding a team of engineers, and ensuring the successful delivery of bridge and structural engineering projects. The role combines team leadership, technical expertise, project delivery, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to achieve high-quality outcomes.
Role accountabilities:
As the Discipline Lead, you will provide leadership to the structures team while overseeing the successful delivery of bridge, structural rehabilitation, and new structural design projects across the transportation infrastructure sector. You will help foster a collaborative, high-performing environment, guide project planning and execution from concept through completion, and work closely with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality, efficiency, and timely delivery.
In this role, you will serve as the technical lead for structural engineering projects, bringing expertise in bridge design, structural rehabilitation, constructability, staging, traffic management constraints, and structural interfaces with geotechnical, roadway, drainage, utilities, and rail disciplines. You will lead the development of practical, high-quality engineering solutions, support field reviews and assessments, and oversee the preparation of technical reports, drawings, and specifications. You will also ensure that all work is delivered in accordance with relevant regulations, codes, client requirements, and industry standards. On major or strategic pursuits, you may act as a Design Lead or Technical Director.
You will also play a key role in strengthening client relationships and supporting the continued growth of the practice. This will include working closely with clients and internal stakeholders to understand project needs, maintain a strong client experience, and contribute to business development efforts that expand Arcadis’ presence in the structures sector.
Additionally, you will support the growth and development of the discipline by mentoring team members, helping build a diverse and capable team, and encouraging continuous learning and innovation. Working with other discipline leaders and departments, you will help ensure structural solutions are effectively integrated into broader project outcomes while advancing the overall strength and capability of the practice.
Qualifications & Experience:
Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, with P.Eng. designation, or eligibility for registration, in BC or Alberta. A doctorate degree would be an asset.
Minimum 12 years of experience in bridge and structural engineering for transportation infrastructure projects
Proven track record in project management, team leadership, and mentoring
In-depth knowledge and experience in the application of structural design standards, bridge rehabilitation practices, constructability principles, and relevant regulations
Proficiency in relevant structural analysis and design software, as well as CAD applications; familiarity with transportation agency standards and digital delivery tools is considered an asset
Experience preparing and reviewing preliminary and detailed structural design drawings, reports, specifications, and technical memos
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary stakeholders, with experience supporting business development and proposal preparation
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience with structural inspections, construction fieldwork, and coordination with geotechnical, roadway, drainage, utility, and rail interfaces are considered assets
