Responsibilities
Design and implement commerce applications and services to support Amazon's satellite connectivity customer experience. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build scalable solutions while leveraging generative AI and AWS native services.
Requirements
Requires at least 3 years of professional software development experience and 2 years of system design or architecture experience. Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in a technical field and meet specific U.S. export control citizenship or residency requirements.
Full job description
Amazon Leo is Amazon's Low Earth Orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.
Export Control Requirement Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Key job responsibilities Design and implement commerce applications and services that power the end-to-end customer experience for Amazon's satellite connectivity offering. Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, marketing, and backend service teams to translate customer and business needs into accessible, scalable solutions that work across devices and browsers. Leverage generative AI tools and agentic development workflows to accelerate feature delivery, and identify opportunities to improve infrastructure using AWS native services. Participate actively in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to teammates while coaching others on best practices, design patterns, and maintainable coding standards. Write clear documentation for your team's software, train new team members on how it is constructed and operated, and drive root-cause resolution for operational issues.
A day in the life You might start your morning reviewing a pull request from a teammate, suggesting improvements to a mobile app design pattern and performance. After standup, you pick up a new feature that doesn't have a clear precedent yet, sketching out an approach with your product manager before writing code. In the afternoon, you pair with a designer to refine interaction details for an upcoming launch, then dig into an operational metric that looks off, tracing it to a rendering edge case you fix before it reaches customers.
About the team We are part of the Amazon Leo Commerce engineering organization, building the e-commerce experience for a global satellite connectivity customer base. Our team works closely with backend commerce services, product, marketing, and business partners to launch new experiences from scratch. We are scaling the team and investing in AI-based development and operational workflows to meet the growing needs of our customers. If you are looking for a place where you can grow your expertise by tackling new problems regularly alongside an inclusive group of engineers, we would be glad to have you.
Basic Qualifications:
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience - 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience - 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience - 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience - Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field - Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
