As an Emergency Services Coordinator, no two days are the same. You will be at the forefront of regional safety, helping prepare for and respond to a diverse range of challenges, from extreme heat and flash floods to wildfires, major special events, and complex all-hazards emergencies.
In this critical role, you'll develop and maintain emergency plans, provide technical expertise in All Hazards, support training and exercises, and collaborate with Maricopa County, partner cities, towns, tribal nations, and other emergency management stakeholders to strengthen regional preparedness and response.
You'll do this work from our state-of-the-art Emergency Operations Center, opened in 2025. This high-tech command hub features advanced video walls for real-time situational awareness during active emergencies, plus access to an on-site fitness center to support your wellness and work-life balance.

We Require
Two years of professional experience in program or project management for emergency management
Bachelor’s degree in emergency management public or business administration, or a related field
A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
Other Requirements
Valid Arizona driver's license upon hire
Completion of FEMA IS-100, IS-200, ICS-300, ICS-400, IS-700, IS-800, IS-120.c, IS-230.d, IS-235.c, IS-240.b, IS-241.b, IS-242.b, IS-244.a, and IS-2200 or the ability to complete within one year of the hire date
Experience utilizing National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Command System (ICS), Comprehensive Preparedness Guide (CPG) 101, and Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP)
Works a rotational schedule as an on-call duty officer on a recurring basis after hours and on weekends

Job Contributions
Lead and assist in the planning and implementation of Department programs, projects, and initiatives
Develop, update, maintain, and evaluate emergency management plans, standard operating procedures, and manuals for the County; review policies and programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws
Foster collaborative relationships with local, state, and federal agencies, healthcare organizations, educational institutions, non-profits, and community partners
Design, coordinate, and conduct trainings, workshops, tabletop exercises, and full-scale exercises in accordance with departmental Training and Exercise Plans and Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program guidance
Conduct after-action reviews and implement continuous improvement initiatives following exercises and real-world activations
Provide support to County departments, Jurisdictions, Tribal, and other stakeholders on best practices, principles, and concepts related to disaster preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery
Serve as the 24/7 on-call duty officer on a weekly rotating basis by providing responsive customer service and maintaining regional situational awareness
Develop and deliver emergency preparedness and response training for County employees and relevant stakeholders
Serve as essential personnel in the County, partner city, town, and tribal nation's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during emergencies and exercises on a 24/7 basis
Serve as a Department liaison for private and volunteer agencies (Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), Community Organizations Activity in Disasters (COAD), etc.).

Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
