Community Captain, Bexar County Role Description
Posting Date: Thursday, July 16, 2026
Start Date: Monday, August 3, 2026
Application Deadline: Applications will continue to be reviewed on a rolling basis until the positions are filled.
Mobilize. Organize. Vote. Empower. MOVE Texas was founded in 2013 by a small group of dedicated students at The University of Texas at San Antonio to increase participation in local elections (MOVE UTSA). Since then MOVE Texas has gone statewide to become one of the most effective voter registration and civic engagement groups for young people in the state. Our vision is to build the political power of young people to transform democracy in Texas and beyond. We are building the next generation of Texas leadership by teaching critical organizing skills to take them from voters to effective, lifelong organizers. Our theory of change is simple: develop new leaders, educate voters and create space for the changes we need to make so that our state can be a place where all Texans can thrive.
Position Description
MOVE Texas is searching for 30 young leaders to develop into Community Captains–with the goal of having 15 in both Webb and Bexar County areas. Community Captains are grassroots volunteer leaders who help mobilize their communities around civic engagement. Building relationships with young people and infrequent voters, bringing new volunteers into organizing work, and hosting community events that encourage participation in civic life are essential responsibilities of a Community Captain. Working closely with Campaign Organizers, Community Captains help grow local leadership and strengthen organizing efforts in targeted neighborhoods, campuses, and communities.
What Community Captains Do
Have 12 conversations per month with infrequent voters and community members within designated precincts or neighborhoods.
Build relationships through one-on-one meetings and outreach.
Host one community event every 6 weeks (financially supported MOVE Texas).
Help recruit and engage new volunteers and volunteer leaders.
Participate in statewide Days of Action and organizing activities.
Track outreach following organizational data reporting standards.
Eligible to receive a $200 monthly stipend.
Qualifications
Must be legally eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Must be at least 16 years old. Parental consent is required to offer acceptance for minors.
Passionate about strengthening civic participation in their communities.
Willingness to connect with and mobilize young people ages 18–35.
Comfortable talking to new people and building relationships.
Reliable and able to commit 5–6 hours per month from July through December 2026.
Organized and able to track conversations, events, and basic reporting.
Ready to participate in trainings, check-ins, and statewide days of action.
Commitment to MOVE’s mission of engaging young people to build power in our democracy.
Grant Funded Program
This is a volunteer grant-funded role and is contingent upon the continued availability of grant funds. This position may be terminated if the grant funding is discontinued or expires.
Equal Opportunity Employer
MOVE Texas Action Fund 501(c)4 is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, and disability, or other legally protected status.
