Samaritan Daytop Village operates transitional housing programs for single adults and families experiencing homelessness across all five boroughs of New York City. The Residential Aide supports this mission by assisting with client intake, monitoring resident safety and well-being, enforcing facility policies, and maintaining a secure and respectful living environment. The Residential Aide role involves direct interaction with clients navigating complex challenges and requires a consistent presence, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm, level-headed, and professional in emotionally charged or unpredictable situations.
High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma (GED) required
Minimum of one year experience working with individuals facing homelessness, substance use, mental health challenges, or other complex needs
Familiarity with shelter operations or supportive housing environments preferred
Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn internal databases (e.g., DHS CARES system)
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure or crisis situations
Commitment to trauma-informed care, confidentiality, and ethical standards in client interactions
Willingness to obtain CPR certification and/or Food Protection Certificate during employment
This is a full-time non-exempt role with an hourly rate of $20.60 (annualized at 35 hours a week to $37,499) with a full benefits package. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 25 days of paid time off, access to a retirement account with an employer to match, and tuition reimbursement.
This role is located in Morris Height, Bronx and has a schedule of Tuesday-Saturday 4pm-12am.
For payroll and systems purposes, this role is titled “Residence Worker”.
