The intern will perform structural dynamic analysis on spacecraft and lunar vehicles, including finite element model checks and coupled loads analysis. They will also develop test plans, process analytical and test data, and communicate results to the engineering team.
Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited university with at least 45 credit hours completed and a minimum 2.8 GPA in an engineering discipline. Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or C/C++ and coursework in Statics and Dynamics are required.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Summer 2027 Intern - Structural Dynamics Engineer to join the team! This position will be performing structural dynamic analysis on spacecraft and lunar vehicles in multiple NASA human spaceflight programs. This includes Orion, Gateway, Human Landing System, Commercial Crew Program, Lunar Terrain Vehicle, Pressurized Rover, and others.
This is a temporary role not to exceed 12 weeks.
The Summer 2027 Intern - Structural Dynamics Engineer following duties and responsibilities are:
Perform finite element model checks, dynamic model reductions, coupled loads analysis, interpret results, and communicate results to peers and management
Perform dynamic analyses using commercial and in-house codes, write new simulation scripts and code, typically with Python, as needed
Perform vibroacoustic analysis on finite element models in preparation for acoustic and random vibration tests
Identify critical modes for a component or integrated system
Review and process modal and structural data (analytical and test)
Develop and/or review test plans and procedures, documenting test results
Perform signal processing on analytical and/or test data
Currently enrolled in an accredited university.
Completed at least 45 credit hours.
Minimum of 2.8 GPA.
Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering student
Coursework: Statics, Dynamics
Working knowledge of Python, MATLAB, or C/C++
Must have excellent oral and written communications skills
Experience with desktop software applications, MS Office is required
Working toward a BS or MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
Coursework: Finite Element Analysis, Linear Algebra, Structural Dynamics, Vibrations, Signal Processing, Data Analysis and Reporting, Structural Analysis
Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
Experience coding/scripting with Python, MATLAB, or C/C++
Experience using FEA software and a pre/post-processor
Experience with Unix/Linux
Familiarity with version control methods such as GitLab or GitHub
