Through visioning, strategy, and relationship building, the Office of Racial Equity and Community Engagement (ORECE) works to advance BPHC’s mission and strategic priorities by establishing and sustaining racial and health equity as core principles in BPHC’s policies, operations, and decision-making.
BPHC’s Health Equity in All Policies (HEiAP) Specialist supports BPHC and its collaborative partners to make decisions including programming, procedural, policymaking, grantmaking, communications, and event planning through an Equity Lens.
Duties:
Work closely with and/or under the direction of ORECE director, to write, review, and/or edit health equity and antiracism materials including:
Concepts, frameworks, policies, data reports and briefs, requests for proposals, social media posts, testimony materials, talking points, health promotional materials, journals, and training curricula.
Serve as an Equity Lens contributor liaison to BPHC departments including Communications and Research & Evaluation, to help translate complex health messages and/or data metrics into human-centric stories and ensure reading accessibility and cultural responsiveness of health promotional materials and reports.
Manage Declaration of Racism as a Public Health Crisis initiatives including co-develop and promote requests for proposals, manage grantee selection process and contract compliance, process contracts and track invoices, and write and disseminate grant impact summary reports.
Facilitate community engagement processes to review and update (as required) policies including BPHC’s:
Anti-racism;
Transformational Community Engagement; and
Equitable Compensation
Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of BPHC’s Health Equity priorities and/or Anti-racism policy as stated in BPHC’s Strategic Plan; work closely with ORECE director and/or BPHC’s performance management team to track and report progress updates as requested.
Support implementation of BPHC’s Race and Ethnicity Data Standardization.
Co-develop and execute equity-centered population health initiatives such as Men’s and Women’s Health and Live Long and Well events.
Manage BPHC’s Core Values in-action staff engagement and communications strategies.
Serve as ORECE’s New Hire Orientation (NHO) facilitator; ensure NHO content stays relevant and up to date.
Facilitate Health Equity Lens training and/or provide technical assistance to BPHC departments as requested.
Manage and host Meet & Greet and How to Work with ORECE
Serve as ORECE’s thought partner representative on internal and external committees, employee resource groups, advisory groups, and at local and national conferences as requested.
Work to help BPHC advance as an antiracist organization by meeting or exceeding the standards set by BPHC’s Anti-Racism Policy.
Model and implement BPHC’s Core Values in daily work and interactions with colleagues, clients, and community partners.
Work in a confidential capacity. Operate independently. Use independent judgment and discretion to make decisions affecting the department and staff as it relates to unit operations/services and BPHC policy.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Public Health, Health Policy Administration, Health Communications, or a related discipline such as Sociology, Population Studies, Data Health Science, or Writing and Editing, plus at least 4 years of equivalent professional work experience required; OR BA/BS plus 5 years of equivalent professional work experience in areas such as program or project management, strategic planning, or business.
Strong writing and editing experience. Sharp eyes for accuracy and attention to detail for written and graphic design materials. Experience writing health policy and/or health-promoting messages.
Strong systems thinker and strategic planning skills in government and/or healthcare setting.
Experience writing, implementing, and managing population and/or neighborhood health Grants.
Experience working with and/or on behalf of historically marginalized populations groups.
Strong ability to find, evaluate, and use information and resources such as academic journals and databases, and verify accuracy and credibility of information.
Strong leadership and facilitation skills in multiple settings including meetings, group training, etc.
Strong administrative (including basic fiscal) and project management skills and ability to develop project plans, timelines, and reports.
Out of the box thinker and initiator of new ideas and initiatives that help advance health equity and justice.
Must be a self-directed, detail-oriented individual with excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe, PowerPoint, modern-day technology (including AI, Surface Hubs etc.), social media platforms (including Facebook, Instagram), and meeting platforms including Zoom and Teams etc.
Ability to work well with diverse people in diverse settings in a manner that builds trust and increases collaboration and partnership.
Familiarity of Boston's neighborhoods, particularly neighborhoods that have been historically marginalized.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and/or weekends.
MA Drivers License and access to a car/vehicle is a plus.
Bilingual/bicultural is a plus.
Evaluation skills are a plus.
