Responsibilities

Lead the design and scaling of global inventory-to-delivery digital capabilities across SAP S/4HANA and connected platforms. Coordinate logistics execution, 3PL integration, and cold chain distribution to ensure compliant global delivery operations.

Requirements

Requires deep expertise in SAP Logistics Execution, SD-LE, and S/4HANA with a strong background in 3PL and warehouse integration. Experience in GxP-regulated environments and the ability to lead global logistics technology strategies is essential.

Full job description

The Role

Moderna is seeking a SAP Inventory-to-Delivery Lead to design, scale, and support global logistics execution, inventory movement, 3PL integration, warehouse connectivity, cold chain distribution, transportation integration, and compliant delivery operations across SAP S/4HANA and connected digital platforms.

This role will support Moderna’s commercial, clinical, and international distribution capabilities across the US, Europe, APAC, and other global markets. The role will partner closely with Supply Chain, Logistics, Warehouse Operations, Quality, Manufacturing, Commercial, Finance, Digital, 3PL partners, carriers, couriers, transportation providers, and external warehouse management system providers.

The ideal candidate will bring strong SAP Logistics Execution and SAP SD-LE experience, with depth in outbound delivery processing, inventory management, batch management, warehouse and 3PL integration, EDI/IDoc troubleshooting, cold chain distribution, courier/carrier integration, GxP compliance, and validated system delivery.

This is not a narrow SAP configuration role. It is a broader logistics technology leadership opportunity for someone who wants to help shape Moderna’s global Inventory-to-Delivery digital capabilities across SAP and non-SAP platforms.

Moderna’s distribution and logistics ecosystem continues to expand across products, markets, partners, warehouses, carriers, couriers, and geographies. As the business scales globally, Moderna needs strong SAP Inventory-to-Delivery leadership across the full flow from inventory availability through delivery creation, warehouse execution, picking, packing, batch determination, shipment, carrier/courier handoff, proof of delivery, inventory reconciliation, and downstream operational visibility.

This role will help shape how SAP S/4HANA, external warehouse management systems, 3PL platforms, transportation providers, courier networks, middleware, EDI, IDocs, analytics platforms, and AI-enabled capabilities work together as a scalable global logistics ecosystem.

The successful candidate will also help Moderna prepare for future SAP and digital logistics capabilities, including SAP S/4HANA upgrades, SAP Business Network for Logistics, SAP BTP, integration modernization, intelligent exception management, SAP Joule, SAP Business AI, automation, analytics, and improved supply chain visibility.

Here’s What You’ll Do

  • You will lead SAP Inventory-to-Delivery capabilities across logistics execution, delivery processing, inventory management, batch management, 3PL integration, warehouse integration, transportation integration, courier/carrier connectivity, cold chain distribution, and operational visibility.
  • You will design scalable solutions across SAP S/4HANA, external WMS platforms, 3PL systems, transportation providers, courier networks, middleware, EDI, IDocs, APIs, analytics platforms, and custom applications.
  • You will partner with global business and Digital stakeholders across the US, Europe, APAC, and other markets to translate logistics, warehouse, distribution, and inventory needs into practical technology solutions.
  • You will provide functional and technical leadership across outbound delivery processing, inventory movements, batch determination, batch status management, quality release integration, picking, packing, shipping, advanced shipment notifications, proof of delivery, shipment tracking, and partner inventory reconciliation.
  • You will coordinate functional activities across Logistics Execution, Inventory Management, Quality Management, Batch Management, 3PL Integration, Transportation Integration, and Analytics workstreams, including solution decisions, dependencies, risks, and delivery readiness.
  • You will support global template design, SAP S/4HANA upgrade readiness, integration modernization, data/analytics enablement, and adoption of future SAP capabilities such as SAP BTP, SAP Business Network for Logistics, SAP Joule, SAP Business AI, and intelligent automation.
  • You will mentor and develop team members, helping grow SAP Logistics Execution, inventory management, warehouse integration, 3PL integration, cold chain distribution, and solution delivery capabilities.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Lead SAP Inventory-to-Delivery solution design across logistics execution, inventory movement, outbound delivery processing, warehouse integration, 3PL integration, transportation integration, and cold chain distribution.
  • Design scalable global solutions that connect SAP S/4HANA with external WMS platforms, 3PL providers, transportation providers, courier networks, middleware, EDI, IDocs, APIs, analytics platforms, and custom applications.
  • Partner with Supply Chain, Logistics, Warehouse Operations, Quality, Manufacturing, Commercial, Finance, Digital, vendors, and external partners to translate logistics and distribution needs into scalable technology solutions.
  • Provide architecture and functional guidance across delivery creation, picking, packing, goods issue, shipment confirmation, advanced shipment notifications, proof of delivery, inventory reconciliation, batch determination, batch status management, and quality release integration.
  • Support 3PL and warehouse integration processes, including EDI and IDoc mappings for delivery creation, warehouse order execution, pick/pack confirmation, shipment confirmation, inventory updates, and proof of delivery.
  • Support courier, carrier, and transportation integrations for shipment routing, shipment tracking, delivery status updates, temperature-controlled shipment handling, and logistics exception visibility.
  • Ensure distribution, warehouse, shipping, and logistics configurations align with GxP expectations, Good Distribution Practices, and applicable FDA, EMA, and global regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in computer systems validation activities, including requirements definition, functional specifications, test script development, protocol execution, deviation resolution, and validation documentation.
  • Support global template design and rollout by balancing enterprise standardization with regional logistics, 3PL, carrier, courier, cold chain, and regulatory requirements.
  • Create clear solution artifacts including process flows, architecture diagrams, integration flows, data flows, option assessments, functional specifications, test scenarios, and decision documents.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce manual work, improve inventory accuracy, enhance partner visibility, strengthen controls, and improve delivery reliability.

Your Responsibilities Will Also Include

  • Supporting SAP S/4HANA upgrade readiness and helping evaluate new SAP capabilities relevant to logistics execution, warehouse integration, transportation integration, inventory management, and distribution operations.
  • Exploring practical use cases for SAP Joule, SAP Business AI, automation, intelligent exception management, analytics, and AI-assisted support to improve supply chain visibility and Inventory-to-Delivery decision-making.
  • Staying current on SAP innovations such as SAP Logistics Execution, Advanced ATP, Batch Management, Quality Management integration, BRFplus output management, SAP BTP, SAP Integration Suite, SAP Business Network for Logistics, and other relevant capabilities.
  • Partnering with AMS teams, system integrators, 3PL providers, warehouse partners, transportation providers, courier networks, and internal Digital teams to ensure solutions are scalable, supportable, compliant, and aligned with Moderna’s long-term platform strategy.
  • Managing solution risks, dependencies, validation readiness, partner readiness, cutover activities, and key design decisions across complex global logistics programs.
  • Supporting operational stability by helping troubleshoot production issues related to deliveries, inventory, warehouse confirmations, EDI/IDoc failures, batch determination, quality release blocks, shipment updates, and partner integration errors.
  • Mentoring and developing team members in SAP Logistics Execution, Inventory Management, Batch Management, 3PL integration, courier/carrier integration, validation, analytics, and solution ownership.

The Key Moderna Mindsets You’ll Need to Succeed in the Role

We pursue options in parallel — You evaluate multiple solution paths across SAP, 3PL platforms, warehouse systems, transportation providers, integrations, data, analytics, and automation before recommending the right approach.

We obsess over learning — You stay current on SAP S/4HANA, SAP Logistics Execution, SAP Business Network for Logistics, SAP BTP, SAP Joule, SAP Business AI, cold chain logistics, GxP validation, and industry best practices.

We question convention — You challenge legacy logistics designs and look for simpler, more scalable ways to support global distribution, partner integration, and inventory visibility.

We digitize everywhere possible — You look for opportunities to use data, automation, analytics, and AI to improve supply chain visibility, warehouse execution, logistics exception management, and delivery reliability.

We behave like owners — You take accountability for end-to-end Inventory-to-Delivery outcomes across SAP, external partners, integrations, validation, operational readiness, and production stability.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)

  • Strong experience in SAP Logistics Execution, SAP SD-LE, SAP Inventory Management, SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC, warehouse integration, 3PL integration, or large-scale SAP logistics process design.
  • Deep understanding of SAP delivery processing, outbound logistics, inventory movements, goods issue, shipment confirmation, proof of delivery, and partner inventory alignment.
  • Strong understanding of how SAP connects with external WMS platforms, 3PL systems, transportation providers, courier networks, middleware, EDI, IDocs, APIs, and analytics platforms.
  • Experience with 3PL and warehouse integration scenarios, including delivery creation, picking, packing, shipment confirmation, inventory updates, and proof of delivery.
  • Experience troubleshooting EDI/IDoc integrations between SAP and external logistics partners, including warehouse, shipment, inventory, and advanced shipment notification messages.
  • Familiarity with EDI transactions such as 856, 940, 945, and other relevant 3PL, warehouse, transportation, and inventory-related messages.
  • Good understanding of SAP batch management, batch determination, batch status management, restricted versus unrestricted inventory, and Quality Management integration for usage decisions before shipping.
  • Experience supporting GxP-regulated logistics, distribution, warehouse, or shipping processes, including participation in computer systems validation activities.
  • Ability to think across business process, SAP configuration, integration architecture, data flows, validation, controls, compliance, operational support, and user experience.
  • Experience working with global business teams and designing logistics solutions that can scale across the US, Europe, APAC, and other international markets.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and delivery skills, with the ability to engage business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, system integrators, external logistics partners, and senior leaders.
  • Interest in SAP innovation, including S/4HANA upgrades, SAP Joule, SAP Business AI, SAP BTP, SAP Business Network for Logistics, automation, analytics, and AI-enabled supply chain process improvement.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • 8+ years of experience in SAP Logistics Execution, SAP SD-LE, SAP Inventory Management, SAP warehouse integration, SAP 3PL integration, SAP project delivery, SAP solution architecture, or related logistics transformation.
  • Experience in life sciences, biotech, pharmaceutical, healthcare, medtech, cold chain logistics, regulated distribution, CPG, logistics, federal supply chains, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA transformation, upgrade, greenfield, brownfield, global template rollout, or large-scale enhancement programs.
  • Experience in one or more specialization areas: logistics execution, inventory management, warehouse integration, 3PL integration, cold chain distribution, batch management, quality release integration, route determination, carrier integration, courier integration, or transportation management.
  • Experience integrating SAP with 3PL systems, external WMS platforms, transportation platforms, courier/carrier platforms, customer portals, middleware, EDI, APIs, IDocs, or enterprise data platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with EDI and IDoc monitoring, troubleshooting, mapping, partner coordination, and root cause analysis for warehouse and logistics interfaces.
  • Experience with cold chain and temperature-controlled logistics, including refrigerated or frozen product distribution, temperature-sensitive shipment indicators, specialized carrier profiles, shipment tracking, and exception management.
  • Exposure to SAP BTP, SAP Integration Suite, Boomi, SAP Business Network for Logistics, SAP Transportation Management, SAP Extended Warehouse Management, SAP Datasphere, SAP Analytics Cloud, Databricks, Snowflake, Power BI, SAP Joule, SAP Business AI, process mining, or intelligent automation.
  • Ability to mentor and develop team members, promote knowledge sharing, and grow SAP logistics execution, inventory management, 3PL integration, cold chain distribution, courier/carrier integration, and solution leadership capabilities.
