Trade Me Role Description
At Trade Me, we're about connecting Kiwi to create the life they want. Whether it's the big things like finding a home, a job, a car or growing their business, or the smaller things, like finding that right bedside table or parting ways with some old stuff. At Trade Me our vision is to be the place where Kiwi look first.
The Trade Me app is one of New Zealand's largest apps, with one in three Kiwis using it. As a Lead Software Engineer focusing strictly on iOS, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical and strategic direction of our mobile experience. You will collaborate with Product Owners to drive objectives, champion engineering best practices, and mentor engineers. Most importantly, you will build a culture of trust and cooperation across the team.
This is a 12 month fixed term role
Here is what you can expect from this role:
Articulate complex technical designs and develop/implement the technical roadmap for the iOS platform.
Lead the advocacy and implementation of engineering best practices, including coding standards and design principles.
Provide hands-on technical guidance, mentorship, and career progression support to engineers.
Embed within software delivery teams to plan, develop, test, and release complex iOS solutions.
Actively advocate and drive Technical Debt management and prioritize remediation plans.
What you will bring to our team:
Deep understanding of software development principles, architecture, design patterns, and modern technologies.
Strong technical knowledge for designing scalable, reliable, and maintainable applications.
Proven experience and hands-on coding proficiency in native iOS development, specifically Swift, SwiftUI, and Objective-C (please note this role focuses exclusively on the iOS platform).
5+ years of leadership experience in roles focused on guiding, inspiring, and mentoring engineering teams.
Experience across complex projects with consideration for system performance, maintainability, scalability, and security.
Involvement in day-to-day maintenance (BAU), large-scale refactors, feature development, and rapid prototyping.
Hands-on experience experimenting with AI tools, and a natural curiosity to weave them into your everyday work.
Why Trade Me? At Trade Me, we believe in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where you can thrive. We offer:
Flexible work options: We support various work arrangements for this role, including part-time work, job sharing, and flexible working hours to help you achieve a healthy work-life balance. This includes a home office setup and utilities allowance.
Invest in your family: We offer comprehensive parental leave policies to support parents.
Dedicated 10% Learning & Development time:Enjoy 10% dedicated time for ongoing learning and skill enhancement.
Wellness resources:We prioritize your physical and mental wellbeing, providing access to various resources.
Strong social culture:Company-paid shared lunches, regular social events, annual awards, employee networking groups, social sports clubs and more.
AI and Tech: We live and breathe AI in our daily tasks. We value curiosity and an open mind towards new tech, offering dedicated AI skilling to help you grow and thrive in a fast-changing landscape.
Our Commitment to Diversity: We're firm believers that diversity fuels progress. To tackle existing inequality for women in technical leadership, we will be applying a preference for women when filling this role. The successful candidate will of course need to meet the core criteria for the role, and Trade Me will also take a broader perspective weighing up skills and experience alongside other factors such as future potential, diversity and the unique contribution you could make at Trade Me.
Trade Me is an INZ accredited employer. We truly value diversity and embrace a flexible workplace where people are encouraged to achieve their potential.
Trade Me is New Zealand’s most influential ecommerce platform and as quintessentially Kiwi as you can get. It's a fun, vibrant and fast-moving place to work.
