The Receiving Barn Laborer is responsible for cleaning, organizing, and performing minor repairs within the receiving barn and surrounding areas. This includes maintaining stalls, floors, and drains to ensure a safe environment for horses and horsemen.
Candidates must have experience working around racehorses and be able to obtain an Indiana Horse Racing Commission License. A high school diploma or GED is required, with college experience preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Receiving Barn Laborer is responsible for cleaning, organizing, and making minor repairs to the Receiving Barn by performing the following duties:
Cleaning and flushing of the drains in the wash stalls on a weekly basis.
If assigned to work during live racing, ensure the safety of the horsemen by keeping the floors clean and clear of waste at all times.
Maintain and manage the proper care of work equipment reporting loss or damage to the supervisor.
If asked, assist the Stall Superintendent place horses shipping in to race in the correct assigned stall.
Team members will be working around Thoroughbred and Quarter Horses each day; must have experience working around racehorses.
Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
A High School Diploma or GED; College experience preferred.
One to three months of experience in racetrack industry; must have experience working around racehorses.
Excellent verbal, mathematics, interpersonal, communication and writing skills.
Ability to troubleshoot problems, offer recommendations, decision making, ability to make quick accurate decisions independently.
Extensive equine knowledge, types of racing and all racing industry requirements.
Must be able to obtain an Indiana Horse Racing Commission License.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job at a Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing facility. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Also required are frequent standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, climbing steps, and sitting. May be required to lift approximately fifty [50] pounds.
