As part of the People Analytics team, the Lead Workforce Visualization Analyst supports workforce reporting, analytics, and metric development activities that inform operational and strategic decision-making across UCSF. Working under the direction of the Director of People Analytics, the incumbent partners with analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to investigate workforce questions, develop workforce metrics, conduct analyses, and deliver reporting solutions that support organizational priorities. Working under the direction of the Director of People Analytics, the technically-oriented workforce analyst will support leadership requests, develop metrics, conduct analyses, and operationalize business questions into reporting and analytics products.
This role will touch upon the broad portfolio of People Analytics domains, including workforce demographics, workforce movement, human resources operational analytics, occupational health, learning and compliance, engagement, and other workforce-related initiatives.
The incumbent serves as the team's subject-matter expert in dashboard user experience, information design, and analytic presentation. In addition to leading visualization design, the incumbent performs workforce analyses, develops metrics, writes SQL and analytical logic, validates results, and partners with engineering to operationalize reporting solutions. The role combines business analysis, technical analytics, and front-end analytics development to deliver enterprise-quality reporting products.
Working closely with data architects, analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders, the incumbent establishes visualization standards, promotes consistency across reporting products, and contributes to the overall user experience of the People Analytics portfolio while independently executing complex assignments and escalating architectural or governance decisions when appropriate.

Analytics Solution Design, Visualization and Business Reporting Logic
Business Consultation: Consult with department leaders, process owners, and stakeholders to understand workforce reporting needs, define analytical requirements, and translate business questions into intuitive reporting solutions using approved enterprise dashboard templates and visualization standards.
Technical: Develop TSQL queries to marry disparate data sources that inform recommendations to support and enhance business processes. Prepare reporting on AI-augmented platforms such as PowerBI, Tableau, Databricks.
Visualization Stewardship: Serve as the People Analytics lead for dashboard usability and presentation by promoting consistent application of enterprise visualization standards, approved templates, navigation patterns, filtering behavior, KPI presentation, and information hierarchy. Recommend incremental improvements based on stakeholder feedback and evolving business needs.
Process/Workflow Efficiency: Plan work flows and processes surrounding the analysis of data. Identify additional efficiencies to enhance work flow or extract more value from existing data tools. Identify tools to optimize workflow without compromising analytics.
Documentation: Document analytics approaches to allow for validation and replication.
Sustainability: Work with People Analytics engineering team to ensure processes are scalable, flexible, and within governed parameters (security, enterprise standards) to meet future business needs.

Data Mapping and Collection
Data extraction: Establish efficient and effective procedures for extracting and storing data from multiple sources to analyze and present the data based on industry standards, with drill down analysis based on data subsets and populations.
Collection/Querying methods: Manage and maintain library of complex forms, queries, reports, scripts. Update/merge data using data extracts.
Documentation: Document data collection procedures and sources. Develop and maintain a well-organized source data repository that can be accessed by business process owners for additional review and analysis.
Validation: Ensure data from various sources is reconciled and accurately presented in workforce analytic tools.
Identify and Repair errors: Analyze and troubleshoots data errors and problems, and devise functional solutions.

Ad. Hoc Workforce Reporting
Develop Ad. Hoc reports based on report specifications from either outside parties (eg. Regulators, Trade organization, and Unions) or internal organizations.
Analyze report requirements and determine report data source requirements and establish plan for efficient and effective collection and presentation of data. Ensure accuracy and quality through careful review of report results and clearly document the report specs. When necessary the incumbent works directly with the requestor(s) to clarify the desired outcome and develop adjustments to the report spec accordingly.

Strategic Partnership, Communications, Dissemination and Visualization Leadership
Business/Strategic alignment Consultation: Consult with UCSF leaders and business partners to identify opportunities where workforce analytics and effective data visualization can improve operational and strategic decision-making.
Analytics Presentation: Develop dashboards for tiered audiences that communicate workforce trends, performance, and organizational insights through clear, consistent, and user-centered visualization techniques.
Communication: Present analytical findings verbally, visually, and in writing to technical and non-technical audiences, tailoring communication to executive, operational, and analytical stakeholders.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with analysts, data architects, engineers, and business stakeholders to ensure reporting solutions balance analytical accuracy, technical feasibility, usability, and enterprise standards.
Continuous Improvement: Evaluate user feedback, emerging visualization capabilities, and evolving business needs to recommend enhancements to the People Analytics reporting portfolio while maintaining consistency with enterprise design standards and approved dashboard templates.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
At least 2 years of experience working with structured data using SQL and modern analytics platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Databricks). Ability to develop analytical logic, reusable metrics, and reporting solutions from enterprise data models.
At least 2 years of experience developing dashboards, reports, or analytical applications from large enterprise data sets using modern business intelligence tools (Power BI, Tableau preferred)
Demonstrated experience using data to solve business problems and support decision-making. At least 2 years’ experience developing and maintaining report specifications in collaboration with business owners.
Experience translating business questions into analytic approaches and actionable recommendations. 2 years’ experience developing and maintaining report specifications in collaboration with business owners.
Experience developing dashboards or interactive reporting solutions using established visualization standards, approved templates, and user-centered design principles.
